cor !! just seen all this arguing ... all i can say is ' LOL ' !!! ... 1st: de-cat isnt illegal otherwise they couldnt sell it and advertise it and there is no law to a car having no cat its just an requirement for cars after the year of the emissions rule for MOT so :havesome:

if your saying you have never broken the law in your life. saying you hope chris gets caught is a completely stupid and hurtful thing to say. if it was drink driving yes i agree as i know someone who has suffered badly from that but shit the bed its a bloody cat we are talking about. think you should put your feet up and chill for 5secs about illegal cars being crushed !! if you worry this much about legality i think a car forum that includes moddified cars may not be the place for you as im sure many cars on this site including mine have an aftermarket exhaust that exceeds the 96dB legal limit for noise ..... sorry :doh:

Ok so I drove to basingstoke today and on the way had a nightmare.

Firstly there was a lot of noise. I pulled over and couldn't figure out what it was, it got worse so i pulled off the next slip road into a tesco car park, jacked up the front wheel to see if it was the suspension.. Nope, the wheel was hanging on by a couple of threads on each nut!!
Then I tightened the wheels up to see my back wheel is flat. Go to put some air in it. nothing. Something wrong with the valve

Had to change it to my spare. finally got to basingstoke and now have some lovely tinted rear pop outs

Got home and have now put on my old ZS alloys.

Anyone know if there are meant to be special wheel nuts for the Escort alloys? Pics of tints tommorow

as long as the offset on the wheels is correct then there shouldnt be a need for other nuts. but maybe you could try and get nuts with a flat seat not angled, thats what phil had to do on his 205. may not work but worth a try to save this from happening again :thumbsup:

Was going to sat the same, should you be using flat seat nuts? or where they just not on right to start with?

Glad it stayed on, god knows what would have happened if it came off.

I am unsure tbh, they were fine on my ZS alloys and I know someone who has these on his ZS with no problems with offset etc.

Could you point me in the direction of the type of nuts I you mean?

I dont think flat seat nuts would cure it as all ford alloys and wheel nuts have a taper. What wheel nuts are you using? Ford open ended or capped? Or aftermarket ones? I found using the capped ones ford supply on cars without centre caps didnt always go on the thread fully, so I got myself open ended ones and they are fine. One vital thing, make sure they are torqued up, there is a reason for that - so they dont come lose. Did the garage who fitted the wheels not do that? Or did they just gun them up?

As for the rear tyre, go back and get it re-sealed

Main thing is nothing bad happend and your ok, metal can be replaced, lives cant.
