i have a 1.6 CVH running on motorbike carbs and my 2 litre Si running on throttle bodies, are you using the Si on road and need a MoT if so may have issues with emissions with CAT and Carbs which leads towards throttle bodies.
Carbs are cheaper and eaisier to set up in my opinion, buying the throttle bodies can be the cheap part its the ECU that you need to run them which costs the money along with mapping it, cheaper starting point as said is megasquirt, have a look at this web site for some good info
, he does a set up for a zetec which can use all the standard sensors but dont think its plug and play. only other issue with megasquirt is finding someone to map it, others like emerald and omex are in my opinion easier but wont get much change out of £750 to buy and have maped.

Finally its possible to run individual throttle bodies with the standard ford ECU with bit of engineering as i did and made 150 bhp, i have a thread on here somewhere

i would love to do what you did with the airbox thing

you have it for sale by anychance? :halo:

also would having a chip on the ecu be of any benefit for that setup as iv currently got a dastek chip fitted?

would it produce more than 150 or is that the limit on the ford ecu?

im goin down this route me thinks now as it'l save me ALOT of coin :D

It's not about the peak power, it's about how it gets there. I'd go for TB's for more power. Sadly when getting proper management and tuning in place, it WILL cost more than you think, but it will also give you a bigger smile and better results.

You get what you pay for to a degree, and when it comes to engine management and more importantly engine tuners, I would never scrimp.

im not really after the biggest and best results i jus want something thats cheap to do and will giv me plenty of fun
i think the way will did his airbox thing utilising the maf etc is pretty cool and at 150-160 i would be happy :D
although i was getting 140-150 (bout 144 tbh) on a standard 2litre lump with HO inlet and stage 2 head with the dastek chip :hmm:
il see how the engine runs standard after the rebuild then prob make my mind up from there lol

You can get a new carb setup for under £300 these days - I will phone up and see how much it actually is tomorrow, but I'm sure its around that if not alot less, I can get discount too so its even better (bennefits of building kit cars lol and knowing companies VERY well lol).

But with carb setup, you can download megajolt software onto your laptop, go out for a drive, plug it in, bring up drive you went out on, then either custom map it, or let the program do it itself, then drive it again, and repeat until its perfect. Normally it takes 1 or 2 drives to get it spot on - used to do it all the time with the kit cars. You can even do it while driving along, but its easier to do it when you get home.

So yeah. Thats something about carbs.

Bodies, well they are fairly straight forward, use most of the original sensors and can also be tuned on the laptop same was as above with megasquirt software.

Power outputs of both different setups will be quite different, the advantage of having TB's, is its more eco friendly. I think on zetecs carbs are better off, I will phone Graham and talk to him tomorrow about it, as I wanted to do this with my car soon anyway, and I'll get him to do me a deal :P lol

sound danny any and all info is appreciated as im new to this engine rebuilding using carbs/bodies.

i shall be seeing how it fares as standard first because then least ill know the engine is good

i am struggling to soure a 2litre bottom end though ivor searl apparently dont produce the early silvertop bottom ends any more :?

does the blacktop bottom end fit the silvertop head? (probably not lol)

should i jus buy another 2litre lump?

my only issue with the engine is its chuckin oil through the top breather most of the time and it smokes a little bit
any ell tale signs there you guys see?

i do need alot of info and help with this lol

It would be worth just getting a complete engine if you can, then strip it down and make sure its internally ok.

Blacktop does fir iirc, but, the block is different to the 2 litre int terms of things like mounting bolt holes ect. So that would all need to be changed.

If there is oil coming through the top breather, it sounds like there could be a blockage somewhere, but then that should just go straight back into the filter. But how much is it chucking out?

What colour smoke and from where?

I didnt get a chance to phone graham, I will do it monday morning and speak to him about stuff :)
