Not hard, but still would cost. Whereas i've already started with the 1.6 and i'm half way there

I don't see a problem with having a 1.6 :) Its a strong engine, pretty low mileage. Would be a shame to dump it for a puma lump when all I need it cams and i'm there, i've seen the cams pop up at about £250 second hand so I would definately be better off than a puma lump

Yessh Ford fair is the goal.
my budget is looking anywhere between about £200-400 a month dependant on bonus etc.

That includes (i'll put full prices, some will be got second hand)
Cams - £480
Polybushes - £110
Tyres - £170
Big end Bolts - £100?
Brakes - £100 - 200?
Service..
Remap £300/Chip £200

Its just budgetting each month to get each part done! I'm can do it, and the aim is ford fair, it's vital to have it done then for the track time really, the rest is done on the outside really bar the wheels so I don't have too much pressure there, as long as there ready for the start of the show season.

Most of that stuff I should be able to pick up second hand for a better price than that though :D

 yeah sucks.
Was planning purple calipers dunno if I can be bothered with the can cover maybe when I fit the cams. Last time I did the can cover it was overfuelling like a bitch and I had to refit everything and it worked lol
I'm.just really excited about getting the car done!

With regards to the brakes (discs & pads) Chris, personally what I would do - and what I will be going when my brakes need re-newing, is get some decent pads, wether it be fast road or just normal pads, more then likely mintex ones is what I will be going for, and get some drilled and groved/slotted discs.

Fast road pads are generally good alrounders, they normally work from cold perfectly and work even better when warm. Where as track pads only work when warm...

Standard discs are good for everyday road use - meaning they dont see soaring temps ect like on a track day would where you do lots of high speed braking. The advantage of having drilled and/or grooved/slotted discs are that they disperse heat and water well. So they have an advantage in cooling over normal discs - which then reduces the risk of disc warpage, which is good for track use.

My views on the whole engine situation, do it to your 1.6... It's a well known fact they are very resticted with the standard air filter and exhaust setup and they respond well to mods too. Where as a puma lump struggles. You can chuck the same amount of money at a puma lump or a ze engine and the zs engine will be better off seeing more power and torque. Its fact. People are like 'wahey i got a 1.7 puma lump, it has variable vavle timing ect'... yeah but its it that good? No its really not. Look at honda engines, from a standard engine on vtec they can get an extra 60bhp... what does a puma get? Hardly anything. Im not going to rant on, there is no need, you are doing the right thing spending on your current engine.

And the ST150 calipers just go straight like a standard caliper would :)

YES stick with your 1600, the puma 1700 is tripe! and barely responds to tuning efforts...

frustrates me that everyone bumbs that engine lol

the 1.6 is much more tunable, some can get 160 with cams Tb's maps and a good 4-2-1 and system ;)

if your fitting better cams and a map, try and see if the puma injectors fit, would be more practical doing that before a mapping session ;)

im using RS2000 drilled and grooved discs from Mtec 100 a company on ebay, cant fault them so far and ive had them since october, they were £60 or so im sure the RS discs are the same as Zetec s ones

i dont bum the engine lol :homo: :insanity:

just iv been in a standard zs and a zs puma ting and the extra 23bhp is just like droppin a 130bhp engine in a mk3 (heck they even handle better) and im all for an engine swap :D

although unlike the mk3 zetec, the zetec in the zs is very tuneable which i didnt realise until chris showed me in this thread

I've seen both outputs and depending on my budget at the time will decide what I got for, but the live map with cams (and my 4-2-1) Someone has 150bhp.
And a chip which is about half the price of the map, same mods, has 141bhp. I was happy getting it up to 130! So The extra 10-20 is going to be great for me!
Once you start looking any further though you end up spending more than what I paid on the car for 10-15bhp, which Reeeeeally, isn't worth it.

Looking at my list i'm spending more than I planned to already!

if it were me, after fitting a four branch and seing the effects, id go for a

:- shawspeed four branch, them cams you've stated, and a decent panel filter, then in time save for a remapping to add it all together, you would easily see past 140bhp and be kick the shit out of puma engines, except the Racing one ofcourse :P
