Just been in halfords and seen a. 12v polisher and a 24v polished.
Any good? Being halfords I doubt it, but there quite cheap. Never knew they did them I only ever see rotating brushes and stuff I wouldn't put near a car lol

Ive got one of the halfords ones, its one you plug into the mains, its not too bad really, concidering the cheapness. I mainly use it just to buff up the paintwork after a quick polish, or to get the polish off.

Overall though, its not bad. But if you want a decent one for decent jobs then get a proper one

I've got a 12v one that goes into the fag lighter. it may not be brilliant but it does a good job and saves you a lot of work compared to doing it by hand, and gives better results!

They are fairly simple to use, its like giving your girlfriend a vibrator. Turn it on and it does all the work for you.

Don't expect any paintwork correcting with those things, it's just a cheap way to apply your polsih/wax/whatever.

Well just a good polisher would do, I suck at buffing Polish anyway sobwould be cool. Paint correction seems a little too advanced for someone like me

PS they are about £100+pads etc.

My DA package was about £150 So no, they're not cheap.

If all you want is to make your life easier and have a machine buff your polish etc, then that's all you need

Is it easy to mess your car up when correcting the paint?

Not with a DA polisher no, but it is with a rotary. Well, I say easy, it's not easy really, but easier than a DA.

DA? I want to do mine but dont really want to pay £100+ to do it when I could buy the things to do it myself for a similar price

DA - dual action. As well as spinning in a circular motion, it pivots on it's axis too so it mimics the hand motion you do when polsihing. But obviously spins at a massively quicker pace than you could ever achieve.

It's hard work still, you need to learn how to use the polisher to the best effects, with the right pressure too. And there's a whole host of pads to choose from. And then you need the right cutting polish, different strengths are available.

Get a good starter pack and you'll have a cutting pad, polishing pad, and finishing pad, and a couple of different strength polishes. I'd recommend buying a couple of the smaller sized pads too as the big pads can be too big for awkward areas.

Soooooo these are literally for..

You apply polish, let it settle, and buff it off with this? and you can do the same with wax or not?

Because that would save me a shed load of effort and i'm crap at buffing. always miss bits.

Yes you get two slip ons which slip onto the foam pad, one to apply which is like a normal cheap polishing cloth, and one to buff off which is like a cheap sheep skin.

If your gonna start using a DA then practice first, you could end up burning through the paint if not used properly its quite a skill.

Yeah, its not really a DA though, it won't cut the paint thats why I was looking at it as I don't really want something that will damage my paintwork if I screw it up!

You will be hard pushed to fuck up your paint with a DA, especially with the right polishes. And if you manage to, you deserve it! It's not that hard to use, but it is a skill to aquire on using one properly.
