i thought 4 pics was a bit stingy. no real updates as yet guys. ive ordered a load more zip discs to cut the other side panels off, and ive bought a sump which will need altering to clear the X member.it would have needed altering whatever one i use. i'll probably use a GRP4 type world cup cross member which has been rally proven and is virtually bomb proof, and mk2 steering rack which means a choice of lock to lock ratios :D its still on target to be getting the floor chopped by fitp. there will be another update in a month or so when ive collected some more bits and cut some more rotting panels off. before anyone mentions it i know the roof cross is offset its to make sure i can do a track day without bashing my lid in every 5 mins on it.

The bootlid aswell. the bootlids are diabolically light...with a decent polycarb window it weighs less than just the glass of a std boot.i i'd have gone for a bonnet aswell but i figured with a YB in the front 7 kilos of extra mass on the bonnet wasnt going to really make a shits worth of difference. also means i can use a turbo bonnet...as its going to have to run pins anyways. because the intercooler will end up where the bonnet latch is. ordered some more gussets last night (awaits lewd comments) the original ones i ordered for the B pillar were waay too wide so im having to use A pillar ones instead, due to the fact the cage is a rediculously tight fit to just about everything in the car. i want a couple of more bits of roll cage tubing and some tubular seat mounts. but those cant go in until its had the tunnel put in.

im hoping the box of zip discs and gussets and other bits will be here in the next week or so. if you lot reeeeeeeeealy want pics of those you can.... but otherwise ill be updating properly at the end of the month. :)

I didn't think that the boot lids would be that light, neither the bonnet because there kinda ish light already, a YB am I mistaken that that is a cossie engine? If so how much work is involved to squeeze her in. I no it's been done and the car was turnout into 4 wheel drive aswell lol. Good luck to ya anyway mate and hope it all goes well and to plan.

I'm glad I gave up on my plan of doing the same to the RS, but with a Sierra shell modded to make it standard width (NO CHANCE!)

I'm very excited about this project, and the fact that it lives in the Shonkhouse with my stuff, makes me even more excited.

I get to have a shuffle over it before most others

Your RS was so rotten tho putting that much back into it would have been a massive challenge...what do you mean before most others...you mean EVERYONE else. well except me!

cage official weight is 50.6 kilos, thats the steel one.the alloy one comes in at just under 40 i think that doesnt include the strut braces or extra roof bar. so call it 55 nearer 60 with the additonal tubes i want to put in. however. what you also need to bear in mind is the structural rigidity of the shell is now rediculous. jack one corner up. it picks the opposite side..and the opposite end up off the floor quite happily. Not only that the vast improvement in cocpit safety is well worth the weight penalty. The stripped interior pretty much negates most of that weight gain, The polycarb windows and carbon are just as extras. im hoping the final weight will be 1000kg or just under. the YB and 4x4 gear are fairly hefty. however..and this is the big however. the traction and grip will be daft so one offsets the other.

have you seen the red one in pf ages ago, that was good, they said they had alot of trouble with handling though but yours sounds like it will be better with your very rigid better. will you have to make all your own drive shafts etc? i think thats what they had to do.

shell rigidity, suspension geometry, suspension design, wheel offset, tyres things like that will affect how the car handles,5 links are from the days of leaf springs and live axles. maybe if you had a fast one a turreted back end! ill be happy when this ideas and plans list turns into a progress list to be honest. Paul knows how much of a headache it is..because its like a rolling discussion. ideas, research, scrap that idea...or yes that will work. on the list it goes.

Jam.
