hi just want a couple of ideas as i just got a rs1800 but will be going the 2.0 route but obviously there are so many different combinations

so my ideas are:
2.0 bottom end from 16v zetec mk2 and the rs1800 head (heard better compresion with 1800 head and quote me if im wrong a st170 gasket)

s2 lsd gearbox with a diesel 5th gear swapped over for fuel economy (any idea how much a gearbox rebuild is)

will eventually go the carb route so wondering what bike carbs to look out for

and suggestions good as i will be on a budget but got a solid shell and the 130 spec to sart with just want to start collecting some bits ready

thanks

Why are you going 2.0ltr route when you have the 130 spec rs1800 engine in it??

I know the 2.0ltr is slightly better but not worth the hassle unless you are going for loads more power.

If you so desperate to go 2.0ltr just get one out of a mondeo, swap the 1.8 bits over onto it

Gearbox, the RS1800 box is good enough IMO just stick an LSD into it

ST170 is the same as any blacktop zetec, you can bolt the 5 speed boxes onto it

i would like to aim for 200bhp so just trying to sqeeze as much torque and bhp as i can so thought the 2.0 bottom end would help
so yea was planning on getting a mk2 mondeo 16v zetec engine not dohc and putting the rs1800 head and other bits onto it
and im not the best mechanic so fabricating the black top would open a can of worms that i would like to forget about if u no what i mean but what bhp is the st170 :halo:

thanks for ideas so far

also with the rs1800 box i only get about 200 miles to a tank and yes i no it will only get worse with what i want to do :lolz: but thought a s2 box with lsd already fitted as easier than fitting it myself (too greasy lol) and as it will not be fitted i might aswell get it rebuilt maybe bigger bearings and having a diesel 5th for a cruising gear to try and save fuel if u get my way of thinking :nerd:

My RS used to do 260-270 to a tank

ST170 is meant to be "170 ps"

If your looking at 200bhp why are you bothered about 5th fuel econemy?

as said think 200bhp zetec and ecomony dont really go together, especially if wanting to run on carbs, would get better mpg with EFI but cost lots more, and not have the problems with carbs/cat and emissions at MOT time.
200bhp N/A zetec possible but may need larger inlet valves and some wild cams which twined with carbs could be a interesting drive around town.
As for motorbike carbs ZX9 seem to be the common fit for a zetec and was the way i was going to go.

Would be alot to turbo it, you would be better off just starting out with an ST170 engine if you want to go down that route.

Dude, it seems like you need to do a lot of research. There are loads of threads on here and fiestaturbo about 2 litre and 2 litre turbo conversions.

Personally, I would use a blacktop head, due to it having larger valves and its a alot less restrictive. Then I would use some sort of cam upgrade - as will said, they would have to be fairly wild.

Bike carbs would be a good option, I think zx9 does seem to be a common set to use, ive seen alot of zx6 carbs use too i think. I know a company that does carb conversions on zetecs, im good friends with them, i can ask what carbs they use if you like. Driving around town wouldnt be too bad, I used to drive 2.0 cam'd pinto engine kit cars running on cars and megajolt and it used to be fine around town and low speeds.

As for economy, good luck, just because your fitting a long ratio 5th gear, doesnt mean you will get good economy at all. You would need an LSD though. Do it yourself, its not hard. Guides to do it all over the place.

As i said, do research, and alot of it. It seems your rushing and not reading into things properly to find the answers your need.

hi have been reading alot of the 2.0 threads and as i mentioned there are so many options so was wondering what route to take as i would of thought the 2.0 head would be better but the 1.8 head better compresion and things like that also i dont really go on other forums as i have found this site to be very helpful and friendly so try and get all my answers from here

if you work out what mods you fancy doing and how much you want to spend seems a better way than setting a power target and being disapointed, then look at the praticality, if you need a CAT to get through emissions then will be issues running carbs and lot hassle swapping it all back, in that case EFI might be better.
200 BHP will require at least good ported head, up'ed compression ratio, 285 cams, carbs & ignition or throttle bodies plus RR time to set it up, i got 172bhp with the basic bits of above, do now think if i fitting ST170 lump plus my upgrades would seen 200bhp

Will's pretty much hit that nail on the head as far as spec goes for 200 bhp. if you read the bumph on the cam makers websites im sure its on pipers website. the BP285H cam will see 200bhp running throttle bodies and ported head, which sounds great. but if you have to drive around town it will drive like a pig, youll have approximately a 1500rpm flat spot from idle till it starts to come up on cam, you can forget getting decent MPG period. ITB/carb setups are about BHP not MPG, injection is the way to go emissions and economy wise..but its alot more money. weber alpha or jenvey itb systems are 2k plus, To a point you can use compression to combat super lumpy cams on N/A obviously if you go too high detonation will become inevitable. there are many many factors in putting an engine together and getting it to go like stink and be reliable rather than just picking a list of bits and slinging it together and giving modified engines a bad name. im not suggesting thats what your doing but think realistically. 200bhp and blistering performance doesnt go with economy...

HTH

i will read up more on the st170 lump but that something that i dont think i would be able to fit due to welding new mounts and stuff but i would love to try and fit the 2.0 and probaly convert that to a turbo i think instead of the carbs as i would like to try and keep it for a everyday car not a track car :D

1800 is the better bottom end of the two it revs faster than what the 2.0 does from what i have heard

to get 200 bhp you need seroius head work and the internals of the bottom end would need uprating like forged pistons to take the power
individual throttle bodies, good aftermarket managment, like omex 600 wild cams like raceline or kent then you probably get close to 200 but then you have to think of other factors like cooling, braking it does get pricey hope this helps
