I know people have said that they can run 195/45 r15 on their cars (i have a 1.1 are the arches any different, i doubt it)

Now i have done a few simple sums and 180/60 r14 should still fit within the arches?

The reason i ask is that i bought some alloys not so long ago and they rubbed like bitches... so hard to sell em (bye bye time and money) and so i obv dont wana have this problem again.

lets work in mm...
1 inch = 25.4mm

so 195/45 r15:
45% of 195 = 87.75mm
15 diameter = 381mm
Total = 468.75mm

and 180/60 r14:
60% of 180 = 108mm
14 diameter = 355.6mm
Total = 463.6mm

So basically... will these wheels DEFO fit in my arches?

Cheers again lads

its not just rolling radius that effects tyre/body work rubbing also rim width and wheel 'offset' can also effect it

its normaly the offset before its the tyres, yeh low profile tyres will help but its best to just get the right offset wheel, if not you could always roll your arches or raise your car a tad

If you are only catching on full lock don't worry about it.

Oh, well with spacers then you will be ok up until 205/55/R17's i beleive, apart from the back. which will need grinding

Get some 165/35/14's and if they don't exist remember "the smaller the numbers. The better" :D

Ok sorry to get involved but my new wheels have come with 205/50 R16's now they fit as its not lowered at all however they stop it from getting to full lock. I dont want to use spacers but dont want there to be much/any rubbing. now the best profile (using percy's cheeky little tool) would be 195/40 R16's but that seems pretty difficult to get hold of where as 195/45's are easier to find.

What i wondered was whether 195's would fit on these where 205's are on there now? I'm pretty sure they are 6.5J from a brief look on the alloys the other day but cant look right now, if it helps they are mondeo gti alloys, 5 spokes that look like escos wheels.

sorry for jumping on this topics band wagon :sigh:

Indeed my 15's are too small for my st150 brakes. I know there are plenty of people on here with 16's and a few 17 plus they do look the nuts :)

As a general rule 15s will go over ST brakes, but some 15s won't depending on there design.
