I'm about to start saving for a pretty big rebuild involving completely stripping the car, finding a welder and doing everything on the car.

It'll be a back to shell method and rebuild from the ground up. Things will get replaced if they need it. So what I'm asking is do you guys have any advice? What should I try to save parts-wise, what can I rip out breaking the clips etc? What should be replaced when removed from the car (like caliper retaining springs).

What could I recondition? For example, the rear axle wouldn't be replaced obviously. That would just be a damn good clean and a lick of paint with stone-chip applied.

I'm also going for a modernisation tweak with things like a heater coil in the water pipes to aid bringing up to temperature sooner, heated windscreen, door rubbers closing the gap on the visible outside of the doors. Mostly things to aid comfort, like eliminating road noise and get warmer lol.

Things I am definitely replacing/upgrading:

Drivers door (could thieves stop bending these back please?)
Front wings
Rear arches
Front windscreen
Rear brakes (the lot)
Brake servo and Master Cylinder
Bumpers (got the XR/RST bumpers and skirts)
Remote Central Locking and delocking
Rear head rests
Nuts, bolts, screws and washers for everything interior to remove squeaks and other rattles
Door switches
Interior lights added for the rear working off the rear doors
Interior lights with off timed delay
Dock built in for my iPhone
Electric heated mirrors
MK5 sunroof for that really good smooth look
Engine gasket replacement
Well, anything engine that even raises a doubt about it

Things that may need replacing:

Steering column supports/bolts, moves way too much
Whatever it is that sometimes stops the steering lock engaging when the key is removed
Engine mounts (something is making a noise)

Anything else you may think is weird but could be a good addition? I've got more in my head but can't pull the ideas out right now.

i would keep everything untill you finish as its sods law that somthing you break throw away you will need
i would look to replace the fuel and brake lines for new ones aswell

if you are going todo a shell up rebuild it might be worth getting the shell sand blasted or acid dipped as alot of rust is sovered by the under seal

The best tip i can give you is, make sure youve got enough room if you plan to completely strip it down. A fiesta in lots of pieces takes up a lot of room.

Label everything.

First and foremost, make sure youve got the funds if you plan on completing it! It will take a lot of time and money!

Yeah, re-iterating the above, make sure you label everything and have a lot of designated storage for all the parts you take off bearing in mind you'll want to seperate bits depending on where they came from in the car.

Also, replacing all of those parts will cost a fortune. Make sure you either have enough money to do it all or be sure to decide which items you can live without doing in 2 months time when you realise things are getting tight.

Definately think about how much of the stuff your going to replace and how much your just going to refurb, I read a cossie in Fast ford rebuild and he spent over £1000 on nuts and bolts brand new for the engine ....!
