need to modify the mounts etc matey, quite a fair bit of work. can you not put a bigger engine from a zetec s or a puma 1.7?

well which engine you planning to do a conversion 2.0? 1.8, 1.6 silvertop zetec?? if you gonna use any of them it will involve welding and changing any mounts from the old engine to the new one. ecu change, and change the wiring to suit the sensors on the new engine and injectors etc

oooooo i wouldn't! the 1.25 is loads better than the 1.3 tappety noise bucket!!! trust me!! if you want to go a bit more why not a 1.4 zetec se engine?

well here is what it roughly looks like but no doubt you could find one from a scrapper



and it has 90PS which is the same as a 1.6! lol just less cc!

no worries mate its understandable, anyone doing an engine conversion would say its confusing on the first one but when you get used to it after you do more and more. i think the wiring is the same from the 1.25 and 1.4 i think if you go bigger than that like the 1.6 zetec se or puma 1.7 i think you may need to change the wiring loom. if you don't feel up to the job yourself i would say get someone to do the job proper. but if you are gonna let someone else do it then i would get the biggest engine you can get (the 1.7) and get them to fit it!

i had a noise bucket in my escort mk5 as my first car, never never again will i choose an engine like that. its sounds like a bad diesel. no offense!! it is probably bullet proof as i can remember i ran the car down with no oil so was burning blue upon start up and think it was knocking!! but lasted till the mot killed it off :( then from there silvertop zetecs all the way!

1.25 has more bhp than the 1.3 dont it? i think the 1.25 has 75 bhp. My mum had a mk6 escort with the 1.3 in it and it was very noisey and just had no pull in it.

1.25 has 75(ish, it's PS not HP) and the 1.3 was 55PS from new. 1.3's last forever, run on air if driven correctly, yeah they're noisy but it's very quick and easy to correct the tappets.
