I'm sure it's 3.8 litres for a Zetec from empty. :)

Make sure you have a oil filter remover - you'll struggle otherwise, they always weld themselves on. Then you'll end up trying to pierce it with a screwdriver for leverage, which means oil runs everywhere. And when you put the new one on, only do it hand tight. Don't go nuts.

also, went to get the washers today, at a motorshack shop, didnt check em when the bloke got them for me, it says 'suits ford OHV... will that fit my si?

Halfords will do the tool, but it'll be expensive! YOu need to get out of the habit of thinking Halfords is the best place for everything!!

Don't pay anymore than a fiver for the tool. I use the chain one, there's different types. Like this:

No idea on the washer tbh. Hand on, you got 1.6 or 1.4 Si??

Just saying for your own benefit matey :) Halfords can be major rip offs. You'd think with their buying power they'd be able to bring lower prices, but they're just ridiculous on some items. The whole point of servicing the car yourself is to save money and make sure it's done right.

If you pay somewhere to get it done I can assure you they don't get their oil and stuff from Halfords! So cut out the middleman, and go where they go to save the most money ;)

You still not done this yet???

No idea mate, would need to see them. I have a 1.4 Escort with CVH engine in, same as yours, and I used a nylon washer (plastic basically, about the size of a 10p piece with a hole for the sump plug). Needs to be done up tiiiiiight, otherwise it will leak slowly through.

use a copper washer, there better and dont do it up too tight cos the threads strip easy on the sump

My nylon one isn't leaking... there weren't any copper ones that would fit tight in the shop.

And when I say tight, I don't mean over tight obviously. Just needs to be done tight.

also when you change the oil filter make sure you put a little bit of oil on the rubber seal at the top of the new filter.

when you have changed the filter and fitted the plug. fill the engine with the oil until its at the max on the dipstick and then run the engine for a moment. then check the oil level again.

the oil will have gone down quite alot as the engine will have filled the new filter.

also when you drain the oil, slacken the oil filler cap and just leave it resting ontop of the hole so nothing can fall inside the engine. the oil will come out much smoother and there will be less of the old crappy oil left.

good luck with it
