Hi all,

Just bought my Si 1994 M 3dr ash black V nice too. Totally Standard could change soon!!! Came with goodyear F1 185/65/14 on XR2i alloys nice touch.

When i drove the car home when i drove through town the gauge went up to the low Norm section but nowhere near halfway. Ok i thought perhaps needs water or possible that the gauge reading is normal. The heater worked fine in the car too.

When i got to the good old A Swifty 2 (A52) The Temp gauge shot down as if the car ignition was turned off. :? Faulty Wire? But when i hit town traffic again it shot straight up to low norm. :oooh:
All this is in about 18 miles.

Got the car home (no bad smells or anything) let it cool but in about 300ml of antifreeze as that is all it needed. started it back up waited for gauge to rise. went to low norm again then fan kicked in.
There is noise from the belt area of the engine but nothing to unusual. So is this the sender if so which one? or is it the pump not pushing the water round so that i only get radiator temp reading not the engine. EEEK. How do eliminate the possible pump issue? Need to get this sorted as i travel in the rush hour home and that will test my temprature and the cars!

I know there is another post about this but my sender is not erratic in town its normal ,fast road no traffic looks like its turned off, my mate is convinced its the pump and i say faulty sender.

All Advice will be great thanks.

The needle on my temparature guage reads low too but i dont think its anything to worry about really, my dads Sierra has always done this and he's had it from new. My fan kicks in around 'M' and normal seems to be in the middle of the small white box at the bottom of the guage. Mine too dosen't take long to get to the stage where the fan is cutting in when I hit town traffic, but its quite a big engine in a relatively small engine bay.

Just check that water is all round the system by squeezing the top and bottom hoses when the engine is warm and check the fan is cutting in....if all that works then I wouldn't worry about it at all. :)

the temp gauge sensor is located on the top of the thermostat housing on the nearside of the engine.
the one in the rad is the fan switch

my fan doesnt kick in till it's on the 'N' of NORM.
