Ok so normal idle in my car is 900 to 1000rpm.
Driving today whenever the clutch goes down the idle goes up to 2000 to 2100rpm.
As i was parking outside work it stopped doing it and went back to normal rpm.

Can something have been knocked loose and if so what?
As i cant imagine the accident damaging anything to do with the idle...

Idle speed control valve.
Vacuum leak.
Coolant sensor.
Maf Sensor.
Throttle Position Sensor.

Could be a number of things. Start with the ISCV, give it a clean see if that helps. Your shunt may have dislodged some dirt somewhere along the line to cause some erratic readings perhaps (long shot but just trying to think of a reason as to why it may have started after your shunt).

When you start the car up from cold, what does it idle at? How long before it goes down to normal? If it idles at around 1500, then comes down to 900-1000, that's normal. So take it for a drive and boot it, stop the car then see what it idles at. If after booting it, it idles completely differently, would more than likely be a vacuum leak.

The reason I suggest coolant sensor is because if that's up the swanny, it will think the coolant is never warm enough, and continue to idle high to try and warm it up (as it does from cold). Doubtful it's this, but something to bear in mind.

I'd say it's more likely to be the ISCV, as it does it when the clutch is disengaged. High idles are a bitch.

Well pleased to note that it sorted itself out. Haven't had an issue with it since it dropped outside work this morning.
Car is messing with me I'm sure of it :lol:

I occasionally randomly get the car roughly idle it jumps from 950 - 1100, its so rough, but then it stops :S it's happened three times, I just ignore it :lol:

I can't 100% remember, but it might possibly be on the thermostat housing. There might be 2 as well, one for temp guage on your clocks, and one for the ECU. And yes, you may have done damage with it overheating :)

cheers guys, ive got a spare that i know is working fine (off my old xr2i 1.8 zetec so should be the same)

ill give that a go and see if it helps my problem of the tps etc
