do you mean the MAF or the idle speed control valve bud?
they could both just need a clean
have a gander at loumiesters thread bout cleanin the MAF easy job
the idle speed control valve is also easy to clean just take it out and get some carb cleaner on it

check for any snapped wires leading to the maf sensor, happened to mine and it just starts but stalls about a second after.

installed the replacement tps earlier and the problem hasnt changed, however when the engine is running up to temperature, i plug the tps in, it doesnt stall, but the revs increase to 1750rpm, then slowly increases to about 2000rpm

then if you turn it off again and try and start it with the tps plugged in, it wont start unless my foot is flat on the gas

ive cleaned the MAF
ive cleaned the idle control valve

any ideas peeps?

ISCV might need replacing rather than just cleaning.

Unfortunately it's one of those problems where it could be a number of things. Have you looked for any vacuum leaks? I had a similar problem which turned out to be a little L shaped vacuum pipe under the coil :) Had a hole in it.

have you tried disconnecting the battery and leaving it for a while to re set itself and see how it does then?

imo after youve checked for any vac leaks i'd take it somewhere to get a diagnositc machine on it, that should help narrow down the fault
