Just purchased a mk3 fiesta with a blown bottom end and was wondering what box is best for a 1.6 cvh lump?

Got a spare 1.6 thats covered 15k soo seems silly not to lol

that box should be alright, cvh?? you going turbo? or keep it standard N/A? if turbo i would suggest a series 2 escort rs turbo gearbox

Just collected the car and its a 1.1

Would a cvh lump go in? and shall i use the 1.1 g/box?

surely id get no top speed but a hell of a pull away?

ouch 1.1!! yeah a cvh would easily go in but you need to change over the entire wiring loom system, engine mounts and fuel tank with fuel pump as the 1.1 fuel pump wouldn't be enough. it would be alot of work. its the same with installing a zetec engine from an si, rs1800 or just a 2.0 from a mondeo

well seeing that its a track car then i would advise you to get an escort rs turbo series 2 gearbox as they have a limited slip diff already in them and they will bolt on no problem to the cvh.

if i were you i would invest in a cvh'd 1.6 xr2i thats possibly a rot box or crash damaged either side or rear impact so you take everything from that and put it into your car if the shell is good. therefore once you have stripped out the 1.1 completely you can add a full roll cage, weld in strut braces. remove sound proofing, restore any rusty bits etc. basically a full prep for track car as that would be better than doing it bit by bit!

Any idea on where i could get a rot box? Im thinking of just an si box or a 1.8 diesel box for now and upgrading the box when i get more into the tracks! I think for now im gonna have it for shows and events as a progress car!

Would either of these 2 boxes be difficult to bolt to a cvh?

nah they have the same universal bolt pattern. it should be the same with all gearboxes from ford till the year 2000 i think

Just a note - must be the escort RST Series 2 box, if you get the series 1 box the linkage is different.

i take it the puma gear linkage can't bolt onto the series 2 lsd gearbox? just would like the benefit of short shifter

yea it will fit however, you need to drill out the mounting points in the floor, and there will be no "spring" in the gear stick as the the return spring for them selectors in the gearbox on the the later fez/puma
