Thought i'd return with a query...
I've discovered once warm my car (since the 2.0ltr conversion) has a squeal which rises/falls with the revs (and stays fairly consistent on idle). It sounds like a belt noise although I am unable to precisely locate it.
Also I have a rattle (happens all the time), worse on idle, this is coming from either the Drive belt tensioner pulley or drive belt automatic tensioner itself....
So my questions:
1) anyone ever had this before?
2) could it just need some WD40...I've heard of people having a dry belt?
3) is it likely to be pulley or tensioner?
4) is the squeal likely to be related to the rattle? I'm guessing so
5) will a mk5 escort 1.6 zetec 90ps tensioner & pulley fit? I'd assume so, but not sure?

Also, i've noticed if a complete PIG in that area which I will enjoy.

Cheers

i cant remember off the top of my head how many idler pulleys you have on the std belt setup. its either that or the tensioner. best bet is to whip the belt off quickly and spin them all. not the alternator squealing its plums off is it? belts do dry out and brittle over time..for the sake of the cost of a replacement it might be something to consider. give that a go and report back :)

Edit. think the tensioners are the same. a quick visual inspection should certify it ;)

don't think it's the alternator, not sure wether mine would have been used as part of the 2.0ltr conversion (as I didn't do it)...
It was fine before...
I will have to check the pulleys, I have seen a tensioner on eBay for the escort mk5b 1.6 zetec, not sure if thats what I need or not...hard to find pics of mine (without actually remvoing it).

cheers

Remove belt and have a look, if nothing too obvious, shove a new belt on and tighten it up as normal and see what happens.
My mondeo have a slightly squeek before its warmed up

Right, to update this....
I'd applied WD40 to the automatic tensioner idler pulley (think there are 2)..

This hasn't cured the rattling on idle...if you look down while it is rattling you can see a small piece of metal moving around....it's the 'main body' of the automatic tensioner.
Regarding belt - it looks fine and is fairly new. It's tight, possibly too tight (hence WD all over tensioner area).
Anyway, my query is...I think the automatic tensioner has buggered...I need to clarifiy this but I really can't see why else it would rattle and physically move. I've rung Ford for a replacement and they want £125. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr no.

Anyone suggest where to get one from?

cheers

for the aux set up iirc there is an idler and a tensioner pulley

your best bet is to look for someone breaking a 1.6 16v Si and ask them for both or if you can go to your local scrappy, if i'm near mine i'll pop in and have a look to see what they have

i would of posted you my old set up as i dont need it but i had a rather annoying squeak from mine, so 1 was shagged, plus it seems its going walkies as well

found someone breaking a 1.8 RS1800....
Would that fit do you think?
I'm googling it like mad, can't find anything though, might just take a risk (it's cheap).
