Hi all,

Had the clutch done by a garage last week and today I went out to try and sort a different unrelated job on my FSI and noticed this:





Pics aren't great but basically we are looking from underneath the MAF area and we are able to see the top of the gearbox...in one of the pictures the red thing obscuring the top half of the pic is my K&N.

Green: Bolt in hold...fine
Red: No bolt, but a hole...?
Blue: Afterthough...wtf is it?

The stupid amounts of oil initially drew my attention to it........

Can someone check if their's is the same etc?

hi mate the thing you pointed to with blue arrow is ur clutch cable arm ( it looks like thats what its pointing at)
the red circle should have i bolt i think but have a look to see if there is a hole with thread for a bolt to be put in
if there aint it could be that its there for mounting to a different engine as ford used these gearboxs in loads of cars

just checked mine, and its exactly the same with no bolt in the 'red' hole
are you asking what is the 'blue' lever? if so thats the lever to opperate the clutch

is that the only area of the gearbox is soaked in oil or fluids?? if so wipe it dry go for a drive and see if it appears again and tell the garage about it they can probably inspect it and tell you where its coming from if it is from the box complain about it and they might fix it for free depending on the problem that is

I think its just a bolt hole that holds the bell housing to the gearbox, but im sure it goes into the bell housing where the clutch is, so i wouldn't of thought there wud be any oil coming out of it

Cheers guys, I was sort of bobbing myself about that!
I will give it a clean up and take it for a drive ...hopefully its where they perhaps made a mess from topping it up (not sure if the cap is anywhere near this area though).

the cap for the gearbox oil is quite abit lower and alot nearer to the passenger side bud hopefully it is the mess they made

yeah thats another good point, they could have just soaked the whole gearbox in wd40 lol!!

use some gunk degreaser to get rid of it that should clean it up nicely!

Make sure ur gearbox earth isn't dangling around somewhere because i think mine is bolt in that hole

think the gearbox earth can be seen on pic 1, attached in the 'lug' directly above the black lever...
