Ive got a 1.8 zetec that im going to put in my mk3 in place of the under powered/ noisey cvh, im going to be running r1 bike carbs and ive been offered a ashley exhaust system (center section and 4" rear box) for £75 new, only problem is, a few people have told me ashley systems are quite noisey?? And this being a 4" tail pipe, would this be really loud? Im not looking for anything to noisey, just a nice exhaust note, whats your views ??? Cheers

ashley exhausts normally poorer fitting, noisier and deeper tone than a stainless system like magnex which are more raspy which i prefer, stainless ones sometimes come up on ebay reasonable priced

can just get an idea of the stainless system in this vid over the induction noise

Cheers for the input, ive been to have a look at it this evening, im definetly not having the back box as its a 4" tail pipe with outward rolled tip, and imo it would look/sound gash and would also mean cutting my pristine bumper, ive asked if he would sell parts seperatly which hes willing to do, said i could have the full system except the back box for £30, i'll push him for £20 tho, at least this way i can use my peco back box and have a nice tone still, and if it does sound rubbish, then its only £20/£30

if the peco is a direct fit to the mk3 standard mid section it wont fit the ashley mid section cos the ashly backbox is matched to the mid section and only has about 2" of straight pipe out the back of the box if this makes sense. they sound pretty good but take a bit of effort to get to fit right compared to a better make exhaust, and you shoudlnt have to cut the bumper to fit the 4" tip ( im guessing u have an si)

Ashley exhaust are poor fit and there only mild steel so crack easier under tension/vibration, if you have a 4 branch asewll it will more than likely crack as you will have no flexability in the system. Stainless ftw

hmmm, well the peco backbox ive adapted to fit my center section so no problem there for me to modify it again, i will be using a 4 branch when is all fitted but was also thinking of fitting a flexing pipe inbetween the 4branch and the center section, ive also been offered an rs turbo magnex full s/s system, would i bee better off buying that and adapting the front section to fit the 4 branch?

Depends what bore the turbo exh is, most are 2.5" bore and standard stainless zetec one is about 2". You will loose back pressure unless your running high compression and a spec'd engine. Just get a stainless system for the car then you dont have to worry about cutting and shutting it to fit. Plenty of second hand stainless systems out there and usually go for between £80-100.

ive had both a 2" twin box stainless Si exhaust and 2.5" RS single box fitted to my 2litre both connected to a Ashley 4 branch manifold, as said above the RS one at 2.5" is overkill and looses back pressure and torque but will enabel engine to rev higher peak power at 6.5k revs which is not a benefit on the road also RS stainless generally only have a single silencer as the turbo takes some noise out is noisy at 103dB compared to the 2" twin at 89dB. generally the 2" system would be more than adequate i sticking with the 2.5" as it allows it to pull to red line in 5th and scope for current upgrade in power
