Right today I got a new battery for my XR2i and unlocked it with the alarm fob, put the key in the ignition and started it up. Surprisingly (as it hasnt been run in over a year) it started perfect first time and I thought great I'd leave it running for a bit to keep everything spinning, get the oil moving and let it know i really care. So i shut the door (as its parked under thr trees and couldnt get past with the door open) and went to look in the engine bay. I noticed that i'd taken the air filter off and thought I best go turn it off before any shit got in...

to my shock and horror i had completely forgotten about the lockdown feature on the alarm that locks the doors when the engine is running for over a minute. I had locked the only keys in the ignition with the engine running, i didnt know how much oil was in it either.... arghhhhhhh :banghead:

I disconnected the battery to let it turn itself off (as i couldnt get the coil pack to disconnect) and it slowly turned off and i then managed to fashion an unlocking stick with a piece of skirting and a metal hook which i fitted through the hole where i had removed the wing mirror on the passenger side to open the thing.

annoyingly this isnt the first time i have locked myself out of my car, this time was at least the cars fault :lol:

anyway has anyone else done something stupid with their cars that will make me feel slightly less stupid

I did lock my keys in my car at work once luckily it was a 10 hour day shift and I played ps3 while my mate came and gave me my spaee lol that was me ublocking the passenger side and locking it with my hand :doh:

yup, shitty old corsa, rolled up, hid the car at the back out of the way... got out and pushed the pin down to lock the door, the second it went from my grip i realised my keys had dropped on the seat.. dam..

luckily gordon at street racers had a magnet on a long rod that i used to fish them out with much to the amusement of a certain french tickler who was disapointed with how easily i actually got them out, lol

my drivers door handle broke so even though i could unlock it, its was no good and the passenger door has been de-locked and the boot smoothed so no sensible way in lol, i had to squeeze a piece of metal through the door seal and pull the handle from inside, scratched a fair bit of the paint doing it.

another silly think i did was leave my keys in the egnition when going to asda and locking the door with my van keys (all ford keys seem to lock any ford door) luckily the missis got the seatbelt jammed in the door so a good tug on it and it opened no problem, talk about sheer luck.

one more involved one of the other lads vans dodgy central locking at work, he pulled up to the office and left the engine running and shut the door and went to open the office warehouse doors to drive the van in but the central locking decided to lock the doors so no one could get in, it was really funny watching the them trying to get in, i managed to slide one of the side back windows open as they never shut properly and just climbed in and opened the door . . .but obviously i waited until they give up as it was sheer comedy lol.

SOME keys do, some don't, they will only lock the doors or unlock the boot. Which I find scary as hell! Happened with my old.keys as i had one for ignition\boot, one for doors, but the doors key worked to open the boot, which i bought the locks and keys from eBay.. its quite bad bad really!

this has happened 2 me 2 times now....

cars been sitting on the drive 4 a wile so periodicly i go to start it ( i allways dissconect the battery when not in use over time as the tunes draines the battery) so go 2 the car unlock it throw the keys on the seat close the door (big mistake) go 2 the front connect the battery and woomp coz 1 doo is unlocked 1 is locked on passenger side the car procedes 2 lock the drivers door instead on unlocking the passengers and haypresto, 1 set of keys locked in your car...... bitch eh??

so nowadays when its battery has been disconected i leave the door open on the drivers side so it cant lock, me 1 fiesta 0 (not counting the 2 times it got me before of course)

Stupid cars :lol:

I did try my si keys, my old escort master key and my sisters Ka keys but neither worked to open the door. Luckily I am now a dab hand with the metal stick unlocking device

I'm gonna change all the fluids this week and try and find an air filter for it

my drivers door is a nightmare if i go to open it when its locked then try unlock it its jammed for ages takes me many wiggles and tigs on the handle to eventually get the key to turn to unlock. done this in asda car park went through the boot and the boot closed on my legs on a busy saturday afternoon haha
