right then basicly the car runs and cyl 4 fires on and off when ever it wants to. it's a hcs with a carb so the engine is pretty simple however i took out the plug and cleaned the threads to make sure it was getting a good earth and then checked the plug was actually creating a spark by earthing it on a headbolt whilst the engine was running.

dont think it would be valve clearences but it could be coil pack as its carbed have you cleaned it out and is the valves opening and closing ok.

coilpack sounds promising i think or i am sticking with plugs as all the other cyls run fine so if there was a carb problem it would effect all of them as they all use the same fuel air mixture.

valves could be a possablity but if they were sticking then the engine wouldn't run/ turn

oh and it's been giing the odd splutter for months
