What did ford do to make the RS1800, did they just use a 1.6 block and tune it up with ecu, cams etc. i suppose what i'm asking is could you turn a 1.6 Si into a RS1800.

Its a tuned 1800 zetec, you would have to remove the 1.6 and put a 1.8 in but if your gonna do that then you might aswell stick a 2.0 in for the same amount of work. Would work out cheaper than tryin to to tune the 1.6, i think the you would get out of it turbo charging it would be 120bhp which would cost a fortune. Hope that helps fella.

Yeah, 2.0 is the best and is pretty much the same conversion, apart from sump, alternator brackets and that.

It's lower insurance wierdly too

I think its because of the car they are out of because the rs1800 is a boy racer car and a mondeo is a taxi lol

I know where there is a donar 2 litre that is already in an si so would it just be a case of dropping both engines out putting the 2 litre in mine and plugging it all in, changing the ecu of course.

2 litre is the way to go mate. tuning the 1.6 to 125 bhp is a lot money and time were as the 2 litre is not tuned and standard 125-130 bhp.

But as you have found the 1.6 zetec is very restricted and to remove those restrictions costs a lot of money and still won't get that far.

By all means the modern ford 1.6s are better but it would be a pain to fit.
