how unusual, perhaps because the exhaust valves are a little bit smaller, they are non interference as low rpms (wishful thinking  ).
id put the head on its side and put some water in the exhaust ports just to make sure the valves still seal tight,

valves are about £15 a piece from ford, (bloody rip off for what they are really in my opinion)
are they triple grove collets or single? causes a real headache if you order the wrong ones lol,

valves seats will probably be alright, i rebuilt my friends puma head the other week after M-TECH bent 2 inlet valves trying to dial the cams in by locking off the VVT, looks like they manually advanced the cams and accidentally switched the vvt on putting the valves some 20degree's extra advanced lol.

oh the joys of grinding new valves in

i wouldn't worry about the little nicks in the pistons as long as there's no nasty piece of metal about to flake off and draw zigzags down the cylinder wall.

think your self lucky you are skilled enough to carry out the work,
i always give my self a "garage quote" after doing some work and feel satisfied and smug that i saved my self hundreds of pounds on what at first seems like a hard job but turns out to be a piece of cake lol

nitemare..............., the dangers of running without a cambelt cover, sorry to see its damaged the head mate

If your going for the ST170 head and want to run the VVT , you can either do it through after market engine managment ( as I do at the moment) or use the output for a shift light on a tachometer( as I did previously) . Not as reliable, but effective

I use Weber Alpha engine management , and use the shift light output, through a 4 pin relay to protect the ECU , to drive the V V T , its working perfectly, you can here the difference when it comes in , through the carbs induction noise. Amazing noise inside the car now

well i've hit my first minor floor in adapting my blacktop to fit the fez,
i want to keep the power steering so i am using a zetec power steering engine mount, it majorly fouls the water pump as expected so i chopped loads off here and there, but the extra part of the mount that the p/s bolts onto hits the focus sump, so will have to try and find a solution for that or shave some more off with the grinder,(there wont be much mount left by time i shaved all the problem bits off lol,, also cant use the belt tensioner as it fouls the water pump pully, so will have to make something to relocate that,

argh

hope you fix yours soon =]

Rebuilt the head and runs beautifully, now leaks oil. LOL. Going to be undergoing a few changes over winter so ive got a run around for the winter. See guides page if you want details on fitting a blacktop.

Winter car = 1.1 mk3 :D

Not gnna rush this, probs y it ended up leaking again.

1st thing on list for my car is respray engine bay gloss black, then re-cover all wiring, pipes etc. Fit mondeo rad, and powder coat a few things. (got a powder coating kit :D (if anyone would be interested in getting some bits done let me know))

Also going to make up an undershield, stop shit getting everywhere.

Want the engine bay looking good 8-)

Not done much on this since i put it back together and it started leaking oil.

But engine bay stripped and has first coat of primer. Just needs a quick rub down again, a second coat of primer, and then spraying gloss black. Then can get the running gear back in. Needing mondeo servo too..

As she stands at mo.

Heater motor/cover in
wiper linkage in
1st part of bulkhead panels in,
part of bay wiring in, all tidy, tubed up,
fuel filter and holder back in
new rack in, (non PAS), had to make custom boot for bulkhead (what a pain in the arse)
heat sheild on bulk head, just need some thin black material to cover it over (btw much better than trying to clean old stuff up, it fell apart)

everything thats gone in has been clean or rubbed down and spray, so far im very happy with how its coming on!

Next up need to order new bushes for brake linkage as old ones are shot, get a new returning spring while at it. (hopefully this will reduce any movement in brake linkage, where the wear has occured over the years)
need to make up front brake lines,
do some tidy plumbing 8-)
need arch liners :x

Plan is that you will be able to see minimal wiring and hoses etc
more soon
