Still one of the mintest SI's about IMO. Your Brother should put the GTi on the rollers.

Will be good to hear your thoughts on the 2.0 conversion once it's done!

Theres exactly the same amount of effort in doing the 1.8 as the 2.0L (unless you get a RS1800 engine then theres slightly less) thats why you may as well get the extra 15bhp and extra torque for no real effort by going 2.0l. :)

Didn't realise there was that much difference between the two engines?!?!
In which case the 2.0ltr sounds like the way to go :D

Thanks guys

the work involved in dropping the 2.0 in is minimal, sump, pick up and alt/pas bracket are the main things really, wich shouldn't take too long to swap over!

i have heard that the 1.8's rev a bit better than the 2.0's, matts old 2.0 engine made iirc 131bhp on the 1.6 Si inlet, i'd deffo start your search for a 2.0 ecu and an RS1800 inlet!

be good to see the car get the power it deserves ;) , will be a good sleeper if you leave it looking as it does now

if your after a low milage 2.0, give find and engine a try, they might be a bit on the steep side, but at least it'll come with a warrenty for a while

Go for a 2.0ltr and stop pissing about

1.8 is a great engine, but 2.0ltr does have more torque

Glad your finally doing an engine change!!!! :D

I personally say.... 2.0ltr and itbs :P

Well having spoke to Paul at Need to Insure (cheers Terry, great contact) I've decided to go 2.0ltr.
They have beat Adrian flux's quotation and I will have the facility for as many modifications as I like, including performance!!
All I need to do now is get some parts sorted...I'm guessing sourcing a decent engine will be the laborious part.

Adrian flux - £875
Need to Insure - £863

I may yet try Sky Insurance and Brentacre, it's hard fitting them all in during a normal working day....

Very impressed by Need to Insure nevertheless

Yeah he seemed a good guy on the phone.
I've never heard of them before but glad there are companies out there that do try and help.
Paul - Definately recommended. It's insurance freedom!

Just read this from the start. Awesome car.
Nice to see someone else with standard rims. Do you think you will keep them once the 2.0Ltr conversion is done or will you want to go bigger for larger discs?

eventually I do plan on changing wheels....it's quite a way down on the list of to do's though...not too worried about the 2.0ltr with standard brakes, just got to be sensible

I have always liked the look of the standard wheels, could do with being lower though!

What wheels would you eventually think of getting then mate?

Would they be OEM+ or aftermarket items?

Would look good with cossie wheels imo 8-)

not really sure to be honest..
I like the Lenso BSX type alloys...
If I stay OEM then it will be ST24 'swirlys' or Cossie most likely...
That said the ride is far better on these at the minute, so it will have to be at a time when i'm not driving it as much!

Well it has been long enough since I've been on here, been very busy lately.
I did briefly bump into Ry and Jam as the RR before I scampered off on holiday.

Anyway, as mentioned previously due to a knackered engine (low comp cyl 4) I decided to finally take the plunge and get a 2.0ltr conversion done (by S.R.M.C).
This has now been done, and I have to say i'm very happy with the result. I can't use it's full power yet due to my clutch not having it (slipping like mad) but from what I can gather it seems much more responsive.
Ideally I would have changed the clutch during the conversion but due to time constraints it wasn't possible.

So it's now running:

2.0ltr engine & MAF
1.6 Si inlet
1.8ltr TB

I'd be happy with 115-120bhp to be honest...the engine is a very healthy 80k and sounds sweet so shouldn't be far off that.

I've obviously got a new list of niggles to sort (one being a knackered drive belt tensioner pulley) and obviously the clutch.

Other updates:

New numberplate ...
New rocker cover

and I think thats it.

P.S Pics are pretty poor. I've only really taken them to send to my insurance company.

Also, I would like to stress the importance of driving 30mph in 30 limits. I was given the perfect reason to a few weeks back. Luckily I was going 30mph, and the young girl I hit survived. It's actually terrifying thinking you may have killed someone.

Comments welcome as always!

car looks really nice, everyone is goin 2litre and im being left behind, i need to get to speed with the clan lol.

on another note im sorry to here about you hitting a little girl, i think its bad enough hitting someone whether they are ok or not. The main thing is you keep telling yourself you was doing everyrthing right because things like this can be unavoidable. Its a good job it was you and not some twat leasthering it down the road

yeah im sorry about that mate, glad to hear that shs ok. just think that no one died and just try and get back on track.

A bit more of a positive comment the car is loking real real clean and lovely. how does she pull in all gears, mine seem a bit slow for a 2 litre i thought it would have been quicker.
