i've circled the holes i want welded up with black pen
Image
Image

also seam welded along the top of the bulkhead panel
Image

heres the otherside of that panel, after belt sanding and then running over it with a 180grit on the DA
Image

also welded the holes left from the self tappers used to hold the bodykit on previously
Image

after tidying them up and running the DA over them, they blend in nicely

had a delivery in the week,
solder paste and 3 large solder sticks
as some things that need smoothing are going to be lead filled,
as it wont crack or sink like filler
Image

got the car in the booth for two coats of etch primer aswell as 2k primer after that in some places
very happy how the floor is looking now
Image
Image
Image

rear turrets looking much better
Image

this is the turret which had a fair sized piece cut out
Image

underneath has had some etch primer and 2k primer over the top
Image

heres the front suspension turret in the engine bay, with holes welded up and smoothed
then primered

Well its time for a catch up
things have been a bit slow lately due to loosing my enthusiam
but starting to get it back again

after selling quite alot of parts recently to get my funds level back up
mainly things that are no good to me which my change of plans
as basically this car wont look the same as before,
more factory looking with subtle touches

firstly my new black samco hoses for the mk3 fiesta with zetec engine
(the kits only been released a few months ago after all these years)
Image

spark lead clip, new washer jets, clips to hold the wiring in the boot, and tailgate grommet
Image

brand new hubs to go with the knuckles i have'nt picked up from the powder coaters yet
Image

new rear license plate lamp on the left, compared to the old yellow on the right
Image

the metal shim that goes between the block and gearbox, no longer available new
so straightened mine up, sanded back to bare metal as it was a little scabby
etch primer and few coats of satin black, JOB DONE
Image

also the panel gap below the rear light i've had lead filled, so basically its slightly flexable and wont crack
Image

heres how the shell is looking
basically seam sealer is being put on only where its needed and nowhere near as thick as it comes from factory
Image
Image

recently while in the london area, i went to see chris todd @ torque of the devil
about mapping, wiring and management
very happy to leave the car with them in the near future
Image

in the engine bay i've decided to move the ecu and its wiring
so the factory hole is useless
Image

so it was welded up, grinded back, then a some filler over the top
also had the last few holes welded up which hold the factory fuel filter and abs on other models of this car aswell
Image

after being sanded back
Image

and in primer
Image

inside of the arch was smoothed aswell
Image

to reseal the car back up i've been using a fords sealant,
Image

from inside the shell, under the bulkhead you can see the plate welded over the location for the factory ecu
aswell as the sealant i've been putting in the panel gaps
Image

i've sealed up the same places as done originally, except i've not putting it on so thickly
just making sure it's pushed into the gap and looks neat
Image

well next up was more sealant,
just applied a different way,

the mk3 fiesta was known for water leaks mainly on the front bulkhead,
so with this in mind i'm making sure cover all the seams well as i dont want a leak when its all built up

the choice of sealant,
Image

how i'm going to apply it with an airline
Image

a test section on some cardboard using masking tape for edges
Image

test section with the masking tape removed, happy days!!
Image

the important bits were masked around the bulkhead and sprayed with sealant
Image
Image

a close up after the masking tape was taken off
Image

how it looks now, much better coverage of sealant without looking messy

well the sideskirts that were fitted previously catched the bottom of the doors and rubbed the paint off
so that being done 3/4 years ago i have a little surface rust starting
so that needed to be sorted

stripped both doors down completely
Image

while i was there, i had to see the how bad the rust was,
thankfully with a small d/a it showed clean metal behind, so that was a big relief ! !
Image

next was a test fit of the panels, any adjustments made before the car is ready for paint
so doors were fitted first to line up from the quarters,

while i'm catching up i'll show a picture from weeks ago, i did'nt post up because it would show my newest idea,
but while the front chassis was bare, it was the perfect time to get some paint on before the wings go on
as you dont get much access when the wings are on
Image

it seems the last it was at the other bodyshop washers were used and parts of the hinge grinded away to allow the door to sit higher
so rather than replacing the hinges which seemed fine apart from the washers,
we used new washers and welded them on, so would look a better job
Image

then with the belt sander the welding was tidied up
Image

so with the doors on properly, the wings and bonnet were test fitted
Image
Image

so with the wings in the perfect place, the metal was prepped for spot welding
Image

then spot welded on by a pro, its a lump of a machine
Image

heres the wing after spot welding
Image

then where the front valance meets the wing was welded
Image

while we were test fitting, the skirts and arches were trimmed to fit nicely
aswell as being trimmed for my big wheels
Image

also the wings were trimmed back to make more room for the 8"wide cossie wheels aswell
Image

had some more parts back from the powder coaters
front hubs, another front engine mount and the back plates for the rs2000 rear disc/drum setup
Image

recently tried cleaning up the brake bar which runs along the rear of the engine bay,
after lots of scrubbing it was'nt getting any better, so it was a choice of having it recoated, or a new one

so bought a new one along with new bushes and springs
Image

some bump stops for the bonnet, screws for the bonnet hinges and bonnet
also nuts for the front and rear bumpers
Image

new upper and lower steering cowl's
Image

new plugs for the floor
Image

new seal which holds the rear glass in the tailgate
Image

new washer bottle
Image

two new door seals and tailgate seal
Image

one of the new door strikers aswell
Image

got hold of an RS accessory part i've not seen before,
its a light dimmer relay basically rather than the on/off switch
Image

also another accessory, the credit card style spare key
Image

the panels under the rear lights which were lead filled,
have been finished off with a skim of filler
before
Image

after sanding
