Hi all,
I have quite a large problem in the fact that I have had my keys stolen, and no spare to get into my poor car also no way of starting it if I do get in!
My question is if I have to change all the locks and ignition barrel do I also need to change the ecu. My car is the 1.6 si on an 'M' plate if that makes any difference at all.

ah thats not good, you wanna get those chnaged out asap

the ecu will fine its the PATS that might be a light issue, but i'm not 100% what you'll need to do as i always thought it was a case of replacing the red key chip along with the sensor around the ignition barrel, but i have read thats not the case, so hopefully someone else will be able to help on that front

will need to change the locks and the pats box which is located behind the dash, just to the side of the glove box, its in a metal cage but its easy to get into!! if you can, try and get a set with a red key so you can also programme a new key if needed!!
The ecu and the ring the side of the ignition can stay the same!!

I realise I'm probably being totally ignorant is there no easy way of solving my problem. Either getting a new key cut and coded. I can get into the car using a wire coat hanger. and my lack of any technical knoledge worries me quite alot.

can he go to ford with the v5 and have one cut will cost a bit but alest you dont have to mess with the pats

I have had a price for two new keys and for the code to be reset so whoever may have my key at least can't start the engine. It'll cost £140, do you think this is a good price?

i want to change all my locks on my si cos i only have 1 key for it i can buy a full set of locks and 3 keys would i have to change the ecu for them all to work ??????? im not quiet sure what the pats is all about could somebody explain in more detail befor i decide to go ahead and get these locks

reminds me of when my drivers side handle broke and the passenger side has been delocked so i couldnt get in lol

Lol just don't go to fords to get it done... a new set of keys, locks and ignition barrel i got quoted £400 and that was for my old Escort which didn't have PATS.
And that was a few years back.. so yeah never go to the manufacturer haha.
