went to get my tracking sorted today. when another problem arose since the first day i got my car, it has made a whiney noise with the steering. my issue was resolved when the mechanic kindly told me i have a leak in my power steering pump. they quoted me £180 without labour. so are they easy to come across second hand and how much for? and are they easy to fit as i would like to fit it myself thanks, ben

My GF had this go on her KA...it was a pig. I didn't do it, but her Dad did and he is very mechanical - he used to teach basic mechanics in college etc. He swore never to do it again.
I wouldn't fancy it myself.

find the leak and see if you can stop it, it happened to mine, its was a connection in pipe that came out abit so i pushed it in and made sure everywhere else was in place and it was fine.

see if you can buy the seals from ford first

i would follow you guys up on finding the leak, making sure everywhere was in place and getting new seals but my mates dad bought one for me! 23 quid plus p+p, going to fit it for me too so im not complaining. the mechanics said i would need a whole new pump though, and i trust them so you know. thanks for the advice as usual

for some reason i thought you were on about the rack not pump. Pump should be fairly straight forward tbh.......

update: mates dad just rang me, said he wants us to have a gander first to see if the hose and seals are ok and whether its the pump or what so il let you all know if i have to replace it or not!
