Hey,

This has happened a few times now! What happens is that i will be driving along and just out of nowhere, the car will begin to stutter or jump like the cars running low on fuel or something. We had the fuel filter replaced and that made it happen a little less often but it still happens maybe once every 5 or so times when it gets taken out rather than pretty much every time. I've found that putting it into a low gear and keeping the revs high stops it from cutting out completely. Any Idea's as to what could be causing this?
(if the car has been sat in neutral running for over ten mins it causes the above to happen without fail)

Also, when the car has been for a long-ish drive and then switched off for petrol or something, when it comes to start it back up I just get the PATS light flashing and absolutely nothing from the engine. It will start again but only after like 15 mins... It's almost like the engine has to completely cool down?
It also does the PATS thing if the car stops completely due to the first problem. Any thoughts?

when your driving about and it splutter or jumps, dose this PATS light flash as it splutters? also are you sure its not the engine management light flashing,
if it is best bet would be to take it to a garage and get a diagnostics computer plugged in.

welcome too fsi

haveyou tried giving your idle speed control valve a clean? mine use too do a similar thing which turned out too be my lambda sensor

might be worth seeing if you can get the car onto a diagnostics machine too see if any other fault codes have come up

i reckon idle control valve, mine used to do it so i soaked it in carb cleaner and hey presto it works, also it could be your pats having a fit if the light flashes when it splutters

Hey, just sorta had her do it to me again. Just went out to get an indian, parked up and placed the order came back and the car started back up fine. Went for a little drive and came back, the car just wouldn't start. No turning over, just flashing PATS light.

The PATS light doesn't flash when it's stuttering, only when it's completely stopped and died.

When I say the PATS light, i mean the little red light on the clock thing.

The indicator seems to be playing up a little bit now. Clicking like the bulbs gone when the wheels turned in a curtain way and then it just comes back to life again. Oh dear...

I'll try and get it into a garage soon as! Cheers guys.

i could be totally wrong, but i think your pats module around your ignition might be playing up, take the plastic trim off, around the bottom of your steering wheel and look for a black module thats around your ignition barrel, is it loose or has it come away from the barrel?

i had a similar problem earlier this year where it all of a sudden started kangerooing then eventually would not run at all, it would just start then shut down.
I tried al sorts until i checked the wires to the maf sensor (where the air filter is) which had coroded so i unplugged it and hey presto it worked so i just cut the wires back and connected up properly and it was fine so give it a try . . . .

mine is doin it now it runs ok-ish but like yours splutters at low revs in high gear i have been advised by a mechanic to clean the idle valve or change the lamba sensor but because of christmas and work i havnt had chance to do either. oh and it idles up and down between 1200 and 500 or a bit then cuts out but does start first time afterwords.

A new battery got put in on saturday and that seems to have made the problem a little less worse. It's only done the splutter out thing a few times in the last few days (about twice a day). The main problem now is after you've had it out and park it up, once turned off it will turn straight back on... But say if you leave it any longer than 5 seconds you'll be stuck there with the PATS light flashing at you for a good half an hour then hey presto, it'll start like nothings even happened. During the half hour the engine will not even attempt at turning over...
