Ok ive been trying to get my head around this and can no longer as its frying my head so time to ask for help.

My 2ltr is limiting at 5500rpm or maybe acts like limiter I don't know and runs out of puff about 5000rpm.
Its been like it since i had it and its really bugging me now. So far replaced plugs and leads and put a known new working coil pack on it. Changed the lamda sensor and cleaned out the maf and Idle control valve. I've also removed the cat.

It runs 100% better than when I picked it up but yet still runs out of puff to early which is bugging me loads. Anyone have any idea or come across this?

Challenge for someone as I know this is a tricky one.

Could be an ECU problem, try resetting it.

no you can tell by the noise on the engine its not at top revs! only does 50mph in 2nd :(

what ECU, throttle bodies and injectors are you running? is it running out of puff in say 3rd, 4th and 5th?
Seems strange but when i removed my cat, it boosted torque in my mid range but made the peak power move down the rev range to about 5500 making it slower top end, ive got a load of various Rolling road graphs will try and post up later to demonstrate or i think there may be a previous post on here somewhere.

I'd hedge my bets on the ECU.

You're not running a superchip or anything are you? If so, try pulling that off, but as the ECU runs the limiter if it's limiting lower then that's where I'd look first.

What ECU are you running?

What's it like when sitting still and you rev it, does it still cut out at 5500?
Is it a spluttering cut out or a definite rev limiter "bouncing" cut out if you know what I mean?

I can only imagine a faulty ECU, or possibly worse, a dodgy connection in the engine wiring which is breaking down at higher voltages/frequencies for the rev limiter!

Do you have a spare DESK ECU, or even at a push a 1.6 GURU one to try and see if the fault is definately with the ECU?

according to the haynes manual
"where power steering is fitted, a pressure-opperated switch is screwed into the power steerings high-pressure pipe. the switch sends a signal to the EEC IV module to reduce engine speed should the power steering fluid pressure become excessively high."

Just been trawling around on FT.com and noticed this FAQ http://www.fiestaturbo.com/forums/faq-r ... a-vt93753/

It states in there that the EDIS-IV has an LOS (Limited Operation Strategy) i.e. Limp home mode, and as the Zetec is EDIS-IV so I guess that means it does have a limp home mode.

Might be nothing, might be something but worth a read!
