I was chatting to a mate at work about my fez and about how I plan to convert it to a 2.0ltr in the future. He said to me that he has a gorgeous RSTurbo Engine sat in his house that he wants to get rid of (He has a kid on the way and his house is full of car parts) he said I could have it for £350. He said it's just as easy to converted and it's already turbocharged. Supposedly it has polished inlets and an ECU and bigger somethings and something else, effectively, it's been sooped.

What does everyone think? A con? A good deal? I think it sounds bit too good.

And would it be as easy to convert or would a lot more work need done compared to a 2 litre mondeo engine???

£350 isn't back for an RST engine and ecu etc

i think they'll bolt in ok, but the mounts aren't exactly in the right place so will require some jigery pokery

not entirely sure ont he wiring side of things either

drop mouse on here a pm, e's just done thid=s conversion so will be able to let you know how easy/hard it is

you'd also have to look into insurance and that sort of stuff as i think the RS engine will bump the car up into a higher insurance group, where as the 2.0 only bumps the Si up to insurance group 9

If its got EVERYTHING you need then go for it.

Engine, Turbo, Manifolds, Injectors, FULL wiring, ECU/chip

Then I'd say go for it.


If it hasnt got the wiring loom / ecu then it could prove abit morecost.

Also remember you might have to get it set up properly on a rolling road, so bear that cost in mind.

you'll have to take it to a specialist to make sure its running the correct amount of boost and fuel that it can safely handle without blowing itself to bits within a few miles

Apparently, it's something like, you can't be insured on a turbo engine until your 21.

Dunno what it's like up there, I went on www.4youngdrivers.co.uk /.com can't rememer, and for like a 2litre turbo impress was £5000 from kwikfit and a couple other random insurers. Most companies probably won't touch you with it though, espeically won't if you have no no claims at a young age, it was over £3000 for me to take a policy with a fiesta and a 2.0 with no no claims.

It sounds like a bargain and if you could store it it would be brilliant. But I'd check with insurance companies first, and if they say no and you have nowhere to put it for a while, I wouldn't blow your money.

Rob had a 240bhp S2 at 20 (beast, 5th injector, big turbo, etc animal)

I got a quote of £1600 at 19 to put a 1.9 cvh turbo in a cabby :)

I hadn't thought about the insurance side of things yet, I was just sort of at the stage of "Do I want that in my car or do I want the 2.0ltr" So I hadn't decided on storing it or whatever. But (not that I plan to do it but I know of people who do...bloody hooligans) couldn't I just not put it in the log book, save some pocket change.

Of course, it would be horrific. The idea that 1/3 of drivers under 25 are uninsured really bugs me, I was merely mentioning a way around it that some have taken.
