thanks for the info cookie456_the2nd
just a final couple of questions before i decide to chuck money at the engine
which direction does the water pump on the blacktop spin? does it require the serpine (i cant remember how its spelt) belt arrangement or could i have the other belt arrangement (so that everything spins clockwise)

after drilling and tapping a 3rd hole for the engine mount on the back and modifying the alternator bracket and chopping off bits that are in the way are you confident that the engine will fit in the fiesta si engine bay in particular the water pump arrangement
the engine i have has a massive engine mount where the cam belt cover goes, will that be in the way or cold i trim it down with an angle grinder

Im not 100% sure tbh on the engine code.

Few things to bare in mind with sumps. Focus and mondeo sumps are not directly interchangeable. I found out the hard way. You need to use the corresponding oil pick up pipe. Theres only a slight difference but it matters

I thought my engine was from a focus so bought a focus pickup sump. (i had to lever old one of and killed it as the sealent basically glued it on) It fouled the mondy pickuop pipe. After not being able to get a mondeo sump, (ford wanted 210 quid and none of my companys supplier had one!) i bought a focus pickup pipe from ford which was about £35.

Another thing to bare in mind again with back engine mount is you cant use the cvh one on a SI. The top bolt for the mounting, well it has nothing to go through! Ive done a good job of using the original zetec mount, with a little bracket. I will have to post up some pics.

Im working on the front one, which i think i would get away with tbh, but want the extra support. The idle pulley for drive belt that ive added in, fouls it. So at the mo, its totally removed, again will get pics.

wow i feel quite proud, ive changed, rings, bearings, all gaskets etc and modded it to fit :D

Starting it up was such a relief.

2.0 16v Blacktop. New rings, bearings, gaskets.
RS1800 Inlet/2.0 Throttle body/2.0 MAF
2.0 Silvertop injectors/FSE fuel pressure reg
KnN Appollo airfilter/Magnex Stainless system with decat
ERST box with LSD

One tip, buy everything you need at once! It becomes a pain in the arse getting to one bit then realising you need something else! If you want my honest oppinion. Its a pain in the arse to fit. If i have to do it again im gnna recon a silvertop. I went for a blacktop as i got one cheap with low milage and thought, yea, il make it fit! The smallest differences make the big problems. I'm only using a back engine mount. The si one, just.

But i think i say that because the whole time ive been doing it, its been trial and error. And, im the worst person for putting some nuts/bolts/parts somewhere and just like loosing them lol. I not gnna blab on about what to do now as il write a guide.

Allthough it runs, im not using it yet as im not 100% confident its watertight, and theres a few nuts and bolts that need tightening...

Whoops. Luckily, AFTER driving a 100 miles home from ramsgate and about to turn into my girlfriends road...

Image

Drive belt frays and gets caught in cam belt. whoops. I actually laughed but was glad it didnt happen on motorway, phew...

As you can see its wrapped it self round cam belt cog and twisted the belt. Don't think its jumped but it has locked everything in place and im hoping il get away with new cam belt and drive belt. Will find out tomo after work when attempt to fix it.

Anyone know the moral of this story?

On another note it ran beautifully, and is reasonably fast :D

i had a similar accident with an old engine where a water pump bolt managed to wiggle out, it ripped the cam belt to pieces, i had a lucky escape belt change and re time and it worked again, (but it never seemed to feel the same again lol)

Thanks for the new pic though, now i can see how much clearance there will be, i am trying to work out how to fit my black top in my fez, i see you have to cut out a lump of a focus sump so that starter motor would fit? the exhaust down pipe will fit fine on the focus sump.i havent come accross drive shaft fouling problem yet,
whats that you've used for the rear engine mount? is it just a piece of steel?

i'd love to have a looky loo to see how you managed to fit it, especially the water pump and extra pully

did i read right, your not using the front engine mount??

please get up some more piccys, i'd love to know what i've gotta chop off, to get the engine to fit,

i dont want my car to be off the road for to long i hope to mod the engine in one go so i can just chuck the engine in and go :D
