Firstly, excuse my ignorance with fords and their workings, im more at home working on vw's

We bought the car as a non runner, i was told it was down to a faulty crank sensor. The ignition barrel is also broken, so was also told that in order to start the car,you have to have the keys in the ignition for the immobiliser, then turn the black box on the rear with a screwdriver.

After sticking a set of jumpleads on the car we tried starting...there appears to be no spark. I believe the faulty crank sensor could be causing this?

There doesn't look to be much pressure in the fuel rail either, and i can't hear the fuel pump priming when the ignition is first turned on. Where abouts is the fuel pump relay fitted? I've checked the cutout switch and that hasn't been activated.

Im hoping to get a replacement crank sensor on tuesday. Am i missing something obvious? Does anyone have any advice?

Cheers,

Pettsy

If the fuel pump isnt priming when you turn the ignition on, it means the immobiliser is still on, so that will explain the low pressure in the fuel rail.

Its worth getting a new crank sensor to eliminate the possibility of this being the problem and then go from there. There is nothing obvious you are missing , its just a process of elimination really.

Whats your method of starting the car with no ignition barrel, as the key needs to be present to override the immobiliser.

the ignition barrel is still fitted to the car, basically the key still turns, but doesn't actually turn the black switch on the back.Thats done by a flat bladed screwdriver  Looks pikey but not had chance to sort an alternative yet.

I've read you can check the status of the immobiliser using the red light on the clock,is this true?

are a bit more investigation today

when turning ignition on,still no fuel pump priming. led on clock comes on for a few seconds then goes out. If i bridge the fuel pump relay it runs (so the pump does work)

i now have a second problem though, i was turning the car on the starter, heard a pop inside the car, and now the starter will no longer turn on the black box, get dsh and ignition lights but no starter turning...could a relay have died in that too?

starting to get a bit stressed with the car and we haven't even started on the track prep  :x
