Just had to change the engine on my 1.4 cvh Si. Before putting the new engine in the car, i decided to clean out the sump and oil pickup as they are renowned for blocking... needless to say it was crapped up.

Put everything back together using the old gasket and a load of instant gasket sealant stuff. This didn't work so tried a new gasket. This didn't work either so new gasket was used with 'instant gasket' sealer.

Again this didn't work so used a different sump with the above methods but i'll be damned if i can get a tight seal on the sump.

Its still leaking. Anyone got any ideas?

i gave up in the end, sold it with a slight oil leak

is it just leaking in one place? is the sump face flat and not warped between the fixing bolts, if above ok clean gasket faces, new gasket and bit of sealer. fidly bit i remember was getting it to sit properly at the ends where it went of the crank. lastly its not leaking from somewhere else like crank shaft seal

a new sump is £40 on the bay i think if you need one

bet its just a crap gasket. mine was. i had to buy a ford 1. 25 quid thou. but much higher quality than motor factors 1s.

they a bitch to do thou. u gota tajke the alternator braket off and loosen up the pas pump on a 1.4 to do the gasket.
