hi there will having no lambda on give you bad idlein?? as mine will jump from 1k-2k then back at stand still in traffic lights etc, also the engine seems to want to cut out coming off my drive, cheers

In short, yes

With it removed you've got a gaping hole in the exhuast which would upset the balance, and without the sensor reading it should go into a limp mode to compensate.

Sensors are there to improve the efficiency of an engine.

i was replacing my clutch cable when i noticed my lambda was not plugged in for some strange reason. didnt notice any differance with it in or out :S

you'll not really notice it if it's unplugged, it'll just run rich.
unless there's more problems it should run ok.

put the originaly maf housing back on, it'll probably run fine then
