Hi, i've had my Si for a few years but my mum has been driving it for the past 2. Got back from uni today, the clutch biting point is extremely low on the pedal, almost rediculously low. Also the car has been through 3 clutch cables this year. I've done some searching on this forum and am thinking of replacing the lever arm to sort the cable snapping issue. Any ideas as to why the bite is so low though? My mum asked the mechanic when the cable was last replaced and he said he'd weighed the clutch and it still has lots of wear left in it?

your automatic adjusters not working properly if it is working your clutch is on its way out,
and the clutch cable issue for it to last you have to take the gearbox off and clean the lever and rod up and lightly grease the bushes or i just used a soft graffite pencill so it moves freely

and how do you weigh a clutch ? never herd of that one lol sounds dodgy

Ok, thanks for the info. Is it possible to replace the adjuster if it doesn't work? What part would I need?

I have no idea about weighing the clutch, it might not be right at all, it was what my mum said the guy at the garage said.

is it a manual or automatic adjuster?
if manual, you can basically set your pedal at whatever position you want.
cable snapping a lot is quite a common problem on the zetec Si's.
plently of grease around the nipple(ooo-er!) and keep exposed cable lubed and all should be well

i had this no end of times i just simply copper greased the nippple end of the clutch cable m8 on the gearbox end what happens is the cable will bind in the lug hole and cause the cable to be at a slight angle causing it to snap grease the end up bud should solve your problem and then make sure u rease it up every 2 months like i did my clutch cable lasted for year and was still going afteri had done this

I've recently done 99% of my 1.6 si running gear into 1.1 shell and got a problem with the clutch. The Si clutch cable seems too long? That or my guess is theres a problem with the pedal as it sits very low to the floor and has about 2inches of movement.Tried to adjust the little white toggle thing on the pedal but does bugger all

Any ideas? Sorry to hijack.

Did you adjust the white knob properly.
You have to losen it and push it in till you here a click.
The the pedal should go loose the set it to just above the brake and tighten the white knob.
If that aint it the knob could be fukked.

But if you are using a early mk3 shell you may need a mk3 cable.
As the 1.6si used a block on the end of the clutch arm that pulls the cable further out.
But in the si me and a lot of pepole have trouble with clutch cables snapping rather to frequent.

So i used a early modle clutch arm on miine and it seemed to do the trick.
