Could i get some debating going?

When i come to getting another car in about a year or so's time after next years summer (a long way off i know)

What are your thoughts?

VW Golf GTi - 200bhp DSG or manual?

Ford Focus ST - 222bhp not as well built as the golf, nice soundtrack, cheaper

Other - renault megane sport was mentioned but others please suggest at will

I am thinking Golf as its better made, i've driven the first 2 and the focus sounds better but the golf i think was better somehow and i could just remap it
Gonna look at other facts and figures
Does anyone else have other cars in mind? about the same groups and running costs, don't want to go back to an old car

Golf, no doubts. Best out of the Focus in terms of looks, build quality and handling. 200bhp out of the engine isn't even begining to stretch the legs. Higher resale value as theres fewer about than the ST. It has the correct badge on the front - not just from my point of view, but most consumers will shy away from the shonky oval and roll with the germans and with good reason. I prefer driving my Dads Golf over my Clio for daily driving as the comfort far outweighs the performance.

STs are gonna drop in price big time. Decent Mk1 Golf GTI's are now fetching 'excellent' money. The Mk5 regained some of the enthusiasm for the VW branded GTIs after the Mk3/4 era. It's the most sensible suggestion you've ever put forth

RS Megane is only good in certain specs. I wouldn't get a normal turbo model. Not focused enough. Would have to be the R26 or nothing.

Deffo go for the focus mate. I think it looks better, its more powerful as standard and its a better overall package. You can then spend the money you saved with it being cheaper doing some mods to make it even faster and you will have a very good overall package.

The Golf sounds like the sensible option as when i had one for just over a week it was simply brilliant, i want a car that is quick but really comfortable to drive when im not in a rush

CTR seems to need to have its nuts revved off to shift, any other cars that people can suggest

Oh and Woodsy lesson learnt by me mate I'm gonna stick with my ZS until ive paid it all off and its mine and P/X it in for my next SECONDHAND car

And while were on it people, golf GTi i dont think the R32 is worth having ontop is it?? not worth the price for little more

I say Focus ST, they look good, drive good, with decent power and its a Ford. Golfs are over rated. See more Golfs then ST's !

i'm not as confused as you think

Don't waste money on the focus or the golf. and get something decent

And go deisel for some proper torque.

Along the lines of 330d. Better than a poxy ford or golf, RWD, POWER, and MPG you know its right.

Scirrocco over the golf i dont know wat models they do.. but looks alot nicer!
