Hi guys, its been a while since i visited this thread.
firstly, my twin 40 webers did run using the standard rs1800 management
however when i had the syncro gauges attached they all said the ignition timing was not advanced enough.
the carbs i had run okay but were running to small chokes (32mm) and to big ventries (6) so i had loads of torque at the bottom end but couldnt rev past 4000rpm, it was iritating because ther was loads of power there but not enough air flow
anywho, i blew my rs1800 engine up, well not really blew it up, but destroyed it internally
part of my throttle linkage dropped into the carb at about 3000rpm wedged the valve open, there was no compressions in the cylinder and as a result the piston came up, smacked the cylinder head, buckling it, broke the inlet valves and smooshed the spark plug.
running filters is essential even just for a test run as i have now discovered.
this major setback has resulted in the scrappage of the twin40 plan for my car, the rs1800 engine has been replaced with an escort GTI engine with rs1800 cams inlet and ecu (so the difference is only mild)
the carbs and everything else needed is now on ebay for sale
