Can anyone tell me how to cure a starting problem with a 1989 XR2i which starts fine in the morning but once it has warmed up to operating temperature and switched of won't swing until it has cooled down. I tried numerous starters but problem still persists.

Wrong forum, but I'll move it once I've posted this.

I had the exact same problem when I got my Si many moons ago. I tried the starter, alternator, all sorts of things. Turned out to be the battery. Weird, but get another to try and see if that sorts it :)

I take it it's the CVH engine, has it got a carb? if so, take the air cleaner off and have someone on the key and clog the throttle plate with the palm of your hand then take it off. do that a couple of times and it should fire.

it's an issue with the air intake, there's not always enough vacuum to draw the air into the cylinders - hence why those engines suffer from lots of unburnt fuel

hope this helps you
