Hi, well i need the PAPER gasket that in "sandwiched" between the head and the thermostat housing. . . i went to ford and asked the the thermostat housing gasket and they gave me the rubber ring the it but no paper one. and now iv found one called "water rail cylinder head gasket" which looks like it might be the one, any help would be great!

Don't go to Ford for something lke that, go to a local parts shop!

The rubber one they give you sounds like the thermostat one itself when it sits inside the huosing, and the "water rail cylinder head" one does not sound like the thermostat housing one. The water rail is the pipe that runs along the top of the exhaust manifold heat shield, but I can't recall where that leads to. Either way, sounds wrong.

You're right in asking for what you're asking for, it just sounds like typical Ford parts desk monkies who haven't got a clue getting it wrong...

as i was one of those 'desk monkeys' before, i can confirm that they know bugger all. i once asked (i didnt know a thing about cars) if we did headlight switch's, and they ordered in a complete headlight - 'in case it wasnt the switch at all'. dont even waste your time, go to a local motorfactors.

Get some 15p gasket paper and make one for it.

the reason that the 'monkies' at ford can't find it is that there isn't supposed to be a paper gasket there.
the rubber ring that ford provided you with sits in a groove in the housing and should be sufficient.
