Burning oil somewhere then.

Could be piston rings, valve seals, something along those lines :(

How many pistons chambers is it happening in?

hmm.......

sounds to me on the smoke that the rings may have started to wear.....

So was it running fine on the current ECU beforehand?

Good luck at the garage, i'd hazard a guess at overfuelling and worn rings :( possbily on the overfuelling, it sounds similar to jamie cliffe's Si wheh his O rings had gone on the injectors like onslack said

Yes shes ran fine for 4 years on that ecu mate. Everytime ive taken it to a garage they always blame the ecu and the chip. Even to the point where they put a spare ecu on. 200 quid later the car came out sounding and running just as bad as when she went in. another garage found a plug near the efi half in half out, yes ive checked that as well lol. The problem i have is the garage where she is now. Does all my m.o.t and other work. But he cant plug it in. His thoughts are the injectors. But dont want to start renewing them incase its not. Ill just have to wait for her to be plugged in tomoz :( very frustrating

You paid them £22.50 to check what ECU it was?? :0

Get the car back, pay them nothing more, and get yourself a proper ECU for it... and change it yourself! Piece of piss! :D

TBH you'll struggle to find an ECU if it's desk/deep/dewy you're after.
have the garage done a compression test on the engine?
what leads are being used? genuine ford ones?
are the spark plugs gapped correctly, 1.8mm
has timing been checked?
first things i'd be looking at. if none of that cures it blag a 1.6 ecu (GURU code) and see what it runs like on that.
any questions just ask.

When you replace the ECU do you have to run it for a while or should it work straight away????

iirc when you've swapped the ecu over it should fire up straight away, but for the first few mins it'll be in like a "learning" mode, if your able too you should then take it for a spirited drive so it learns all the fuels bits etc.
