You'll get 70mph, which is all you have to worry about.

its just i have heard that a 2.0 mondeo engine with the 1.6 gear box will top out at 125 and i want more then that if im going to do it

may i ask why? the acceleration on that box is pukka

Whats the point in wanting top end? Pointless pointless pointless.

Rs1800 box is best suited for a 2.0ltr IMO, si box is a tad too short for my liking in 1st 2nd 3rd, which is what matters.


If you want stupid top end fit a diesel box. I can pull 100+abit in 3rd alone. But I only have that box for MPG reasons.

imo acceleration is where its at, cant really use your top end on public roads without getting knicked and baned in the process

I like my high gearing


Call me old fashined, but I like a car to able to sit on the motorway at a civilized rpm


Put I supose it does help having a face full of torque for when the need arises

how often are you going to go above 130mph? compared to how many times you go from 30-60 or 0-40? a 1.6 'box will give a much bigger smile.

I knew of a 2.0 on a 1.1 gearbox and my 2.0 on a 1.6 box couldn't keep up, but it did top out short of 100mph.

it's not the gears that fail generally its the diffs that shit themselves.
best 'box for a 2.0 is either Xr2i 8v or escort 1.8 16v gti. you'll find the latter has stronger bearings too.
