MK5/Puma Digital Dials into MK3.5 Fiesta Guide

This guide will explain the wiring to wire up a set of Digital Dials as found in some Puma's and MK5 Fiesta's.

Please note: The dials may be able to be modded to fit into the MK3 dash perfectly like shown in the MK4 analog dials conversion (see fiestaguides.co.uk for some info on that) .. I have not modded the clocks to fit perfectly due to not wanting to butcher a good set of Digital Dials, and another reason being is that I am fitting a MK4/5/Puma dash in the near future!

What you will need:

A set of Puma/MK5 Fiesta Digital Dials like so (mine have white dials):

Image

The wiring plug from the said dials and as much wiring as you can cut off!

MK3.5 Fiesta loom - The MK3 loom has different colour wires and maybe some different pinouts so I cannot garantee this list will work, but I am fairly sure it will work on all the MK3 and 3.5 looms!

Please bear in mind that Ford did play around with wires and pinouts on all the MK3 MK3.5's and MK5's so the chances of you picking up a set of MK5 clocks with different pinouts is possible. But it isnt too hard to figure out what the wires do :)

Wire them up as you please, you can make an adaptor board to slot into the MK3 plug or you can cut the wires and solder them up.. its up to you!

Image

If done correctly your dials should be working and your speedo cable is now redundant!

You will notice more accurate speedo readings, and have a digital mileage readout!

The only thing to worry about (for now) is the fuel gauge will read backwards showing Full when Empty and Empty with the petrol light showing, when full.
I am going to fit a MK5 fuel sender in the tank to see if this sorts the problem out ;)

Another thing you might want to know is, if you hold the mileage reset button with the engine running, turn the engine off while holding this button in, then turn the engine back on.. keep holding the button until "test" is shown on the screen.
You can then do diagnostics for the clocks to make sure they are working correctly and all the dials will reset themselves. You can also show lots of other information, like speed and RPM while driving :)

Enjoy :chill:

Good guide indeed!! I might try this one day. You know with all the digital readout, is it accurate do you know? i.e. the revs and speed.

Ive seen vids on youtube of it on the mk5's.. but does it give accurate readings in the mk3?

OMG! I really need to get rid of my PayPal account.

I read your guide, and thought it looked the mutts so I've just gone and bought a set of dials off of eBay..... I don't even have a chuffing Si yet

@Danny - The read outs for the rev gauge should be exactly the same as its off the exact same feed, although I have found that it is more accurate than my MK3 clocks, but they were lockwood dials so probably inacurate due to them.

The speedo is a hell of alot better! At work we have speed sensors and to do 15MPH I was at nearer 25MPH on my MK3 dials, now I'm sat at around 17-18MPH !! :chill:

Unsure of the speciial digital screen readout as I have yet to try it out.. but I'll post my findings tonight :)

------------

@elPaulio :lolz: how much did you pay for them if you don't mind me asking? :)

Hi Paul,

Yeah, £25 delivered. Think that's a pretty fair price!!
There's another one on for £35 or best offer.

You got any pictures of how it looks without modifying it to fit properly?

Any ideas on whether you can adjust the mileage value to reflect the actual mileage of the vehicle??

Cheers

Paul :halo:

The mileage is saved on a chip in the clocks. So no idea about that one.

I'm glad about my clocks.. I got them for free :chill: :D

Erm havent got a decent pic, but to be honest just imagine a set of MK5 clocks sat in the gap without that plastic cover on top of them  , but I'll be uploading 2 videos later showing the digital output of the mph and rev gauges which I did on the way home from work :)

Here is one video.. for some reason my phone didnt save the one showing the revs on the digital readout... might have pressed the wrong button as I was looking at the road more than the phone :)

also airbag light and low washer fluid lights on due to me not wiring them up.. airbag light will be removed soon (as I refuse to wire one in, as I have known fiesta ones to never work  ) and I shall be fitting the low washer fluid sensor soon :)

* Road Speed
* Engine Temp

I bet I could fit MK6 dials into a MK3 too  but would be pointless to do so.

The dials are meant to be wired to the ECU's in the MK5's so it shows MPG etc, as my mates MK5 Diesel van shows its mpg, whereas mine will just say random crap like 160mpg :lolz:
