I'm thinking of chipping my 1.6 Si, anything i should be wary of when buying? And these ones on ebay for £4.99-£15 can't be any good surely?

these are resistors

most dont do nutten wot so ever as its a very week resistor

the ones that do will piss ur whole car in finkin its cold air so it puts more fuel in so it gives u more power.....but the amount of fuel u will be using is going to be so much greater that the chip will burn ur pocket and the chip may make ur car go half a mph faster and 0.01 0-60 faster.... its a waste of time...please dont belive they will make ur car gain 15-20bhp its aload of rubbish....

i would say say the money up and get a SUPERCHIP cost 150-250 but will do the job properly and wont play games with ur car....

i did have a chip (superchip) on mine. and i liked it. used less on light loads. went better when i put my foot down. and best of all. if you back it off and dont have a particularly quiet exhuast it pops and bangs like a monkeys chucked a match in a box of fireworks. altho on a 1600 zetec i would have said the improvements were more in driveability more than outright power. they do pop up on ebay now and again for sensible money. if its for an si. it needs to be mapped for a GURU ecu code.

I've got a superchip on mine, it does make a difference, the throttle response is much more urgent, and as Jam says it makes it pop a bit on over run, I've yet to test whether it is any quicker but it does make a difference, I have another track day on the 16th so will let you know.

I will say it does make the car a bit jerky at low revs on a light throttle or when coasting in gear but other than that I see it as a good modification.

I got mine from a chap on here for £50ish so see your eyes pealed and had keep scanning ebay as they do crop up now and again.

BTW get any zetec superchip and superchips will remap them to whatever ecu code you have for £25 + VAT + Delivery

Which is useful if you have a rare as foooook ECU like my RS1800 one

Keep your eyes peeled in the for sale sections of forums like here and fiesta turbo.com and also ebay.

I wouldnt buy new, not worth it. You could get megasquirt for the price it costs for a new chip.
