Is this just me?

but i have been using tesco fuel in the ST mainly but last night made the effort and went to shell, and rather then a 28.3 mpg average, its doing 30-32 depending on my foot

so i'm assuming shell is better for your car

I really do find that the supermarkets fuel isn't as good as Shell. But for some reason, down here Texaco and Total garages are absolutely shocking when it comes to the quality of their fuel. I've told people not to go there after past experiences (not with the Pulsar, that only gets V-Power), and even they notice the difference. And not to mention they're run by money grabbing ****'s!

Supermarket fuel has more silicone in it apparantly, and that is why all that trouble happened last year when people's cars were breaking down - too much of it went into a batch of petrol.

Don't trust them personally! Plus mine runs better on V-Power without a doubt - certainly not a placebo effect...

i always use shell for mine, just for standard unleaded. a friend one filled his R21 turbo up at tesco and noticed the difference straight away, said it weren't pulling as well.

Tesco Super has 5% bioethanol in it to up the Ron Rating, so you wont get as many MPG from it compared to V-power which is Engineered to the Ron rating. In most Test V-power comes out on top.

I would use Shell, but its the other side of Doncaster so is miles out of my way, so i just use Sainsburys 97.

i once filled up at bp and got 360 miles to a tank in my 2 litre si motorway driving, which is pretty dam good i thought but i generally fill up at tescos and use my clubcard to get point etc to save money and get about 220 to a tank full, but it has now got me thinking, i could prob save more money by filling up at bp or shell compared to tescos and save more money overall if the car performs better and does better mpg, i'm driving to portsmouth tomorow but have 3/4 of a tank of tescos fuel in it atm, so will see wat happens

Shell fuel all the way!

Ask for a driver club card and when you fill up, they swipe it, give you points and you can get money off vouchers through the post when you get enough points, so far ive had a couple of £5 vouchers which came in handy!

Texaco is crap.

I normally fill up with normal unleaded at Jet because it is across the road from my house

But this weekend I filled up at Shell.

I feel no difference, but I have noticed recently my MPG getting worse. But I think thats down to car needing servicing.

believe it or not. petrol is refined in the same way. the base product is the same. however. when the tanker driver pulls onto the loading gantry and puts in the company i.d number the suppliers mix of chemicals are added into the mix there. not ready mixed or refined any differently or held in seperate tanks i.e shell, bp, total, sainsburys, tesco etc. the difference in cost is down to the quality of the addatives used. supermarkets dont use as many addatives in thier fuel which keeps cost down. but also the thermal efficency of the fuel is reduced meaning basically it doesnt burn as well.. less power and less to the gallon in essence. i got a good 50 miles less to a tank using supermarket fuel than i did using shell. and thats with the 1.3 deluxe daily :P

you pays your money you takes your choice. i wont use a supermarket unless i have to and i mean desperately have to. the only reason i know that gem of info is i had to sit through a petrochem handling course.. guy who teaches it used to work for shell in the refinerys as a saftey bod.

Shell & Esso seem to do well for me. I used Sainsburys a couple of times (who apparently get theirs from BP) and the 2nd time it only lasted 200 miles of motorway driving.

I worked for a BP garage once and they told me that supermarket petrol is pretty pants as it doesnt contain all the goodies that petrol such as BP and Shell do :hmm:

I used to race karts in tkm 4 stroke and when we just did club events and didn't use elf atol higher octane fuel which was £30 for 10 litres in s1 which you have too, in club races we used the next best thing shell v-power and well it was pretty good. Used super market fuels and the engine ran shit all day. Supermarket fuels must be poorer quality. Whether or not Shell's fuel does contain F1 technology at the end of the day I couldn't believe this but in F1 the ron rating is like 105 or something but the shell v-power super unleaded is a ron rating of 99 and you can feel a slight difference. and of course if you have a japanese car you should be running on high octane because in japan they're standard unleaded ron rating is 99 so it will make a diff on big engined jap cars.
As for buying supermarket fuel I usually go to tescos because of clubcard points...But if there was a Shell within 20 miles of me I would go there all the time. By far the best fuel unlike shitty supermarket ones. Even BP are in that category, made my kart engine cut out all the time.
