hello, a friend of mine has just bought a mk3.5 fiesta 1.3 cfi as a non runner, the guy said it was a fuel pump problem. the car will start and run fine if fuel is tipped strate into the carb but wont run off the standerd tank. He changed the fuel pump and still no joy, you cant even hear the pump pumping fuel through when you flick the ignition on , fuel cut off swich is fine, i've checked through the fuse's and cant see anything wrong, is their any hidden relays for the pump or anything? could their be something simple causeing the pump not to work? as said its a new pump fitted

any help is much appriciated

Just a thought, could it be something to do with the immobiliser?

obviously make sure you have fuel upto the injector. if theres no blockages i.e blocked filter then try an injector the centre point injection system is known to be a bit pony. it either works. or it doesnt. iirc the immobiliser does the fuel pump and spark. its getting spark to run. and its priming the pump id say this isnt the problem. i know its an arse if you can get it to run see if you have feed going to the pump with it running. as the running phase is ecu triggered. it primes. then once it sees a running signal the pump is permenantly fed. (it is with the zetecs i doubt its much different for anything else of that age.)

if you get the plug off there are 4 or 5 pins. you want the top two together. hope that helps. as i say the cfi unit isnt known for its reliability. when it works its good. when its messes about its just a pain. and due to the age of the car you cant wack a carb on it as it wont get near emmissions regs.

Stick a 12v to the fuel pump and see if it pisses the fuel out of the engine end of the line?

Makes sure the pump is working, and no blockages.
