Right...Well i heard about two clutch tests.

1. Handbrake up, 3rd gear, try to pull away. If you stall, clutch is fine, if you can get the clutch up and your accellerator down like so it should be moving(except its not) so like clutch is slipping your clutch could be on its way out.

Well i tried it...first time it was stalling so i slammed the clutch down just in time

second time....it kind of did the thing where it should be moving except it wasn't

2. Then there was another test, 4th gear, handbrake off, try to set off....if your car stalls or sets off its fine....if it just does the thing where it revs but doesn't it could be about to go

This time it started to set off then just stalled.

I'd say that was like 2/3 for clutch good....so majority vote means its good....however i don't think it would be that simple

any advice?

wouldn't recommend these kind of 'tests' myself. you can normally tell through normal driving when a clutch is worn beyond use.
these just put the clutch under undue stress and probably encourage increased wear on the clutch.

JD's right. Normally your clutch will start to let go as you put the engine under hard load, ie 3rd gear, foot flat onto floor at 2k. If it's slipping a little every now on then I wouldn't worry for now. Just know you might need to change it in the near future. When mine started playing up on my Si and GTi, I still got 5-6 months use out of it.



Des and Ry will laugh when I say "Toms Party". Me and Des ragged it to a party in the middle of nowhere both with terrible clutches, overtaking was a hit and miss affair but hilarious

Them 2 tests I wouldnt even think of doing as it'll make the clutch crap its pants.

I always do the 40mph or so, 3rd or 4th, foot down test.

And that test currently shows me clutch to be slipping like a mofo, and was when the lump was in the RS shell I won't change it till it does what my last fiesta did.. refused to move.
