Personally I wouldn't go anywhere near the redline until you've done a couple of thousand at least. No point in risking the engine when it's brand new. Turbo's are a bit more risky to start booting, and it's always recommended to do a few thousand before giving it full pelt. My manager has an S3 and he's up to nearly 3k and it still isn't quite ready. He had run his old one in by 4k and it got nicked, so he's having to do it all again.

But increasing the rpm as you are is fine as you up the mileage. :)

thanks :)

yeah i have heard conflicting reports thats all

like moles on the rollers after a few hundred
The bloke at ford saying he thought it was 1000 miles
EVO saying they ran their long term ST to 1000 miles then booted it
Your're opinion you just wrote

It's a bit of a grey area, but IMO I wouldn't risk it if I had spent that much on a car. If you start booting it then a few thousand miles later you start getting problems, you'll always have that niggling thought in your head that maybe you done the damage early on, even if you didn't, and you could've prevented it.

Better to be safe than sorry! :)

drop alex (boost mad) a pm and point him this direction, he might be able to help you out with this

as i remember him saying stuff about glazing or something like that, but i might be getting the wrong end of the srick and that might be for brakes only :lolz: :red:

i'm really not sure on this hence why i said moles was on the RR at fairly low miles, but just carry on the way you are maybe stretch it to 4k as the max to go to

i'd make a shit engine builder :red:

i posted the same question on ford torque and got this answer so far:

" i thought new cars didn't need running in these days? "

The techniques used now to make engines means there is a lot less chance of having engine parts that are too "tight" shall we say, and the breaking in procedures aren't as essential, hence people saying that new engines now don't need breaking in. There's even some arguments stating that new engines should be driven hard but not at full revs. It just depends on where you go to what advice you get. No doubt sommeone on here will disagree with what I've said completely. So I don't think you'll get an absolute definative answer I'm afraid. Do what you feel! :)

ah now i'm confuse

i thought that they would need some running in :|

and yeah, i'll take it easy still, may after 750 miles take it 4k max, then go for the 1000 mile service and see what ford say 8-)

you bought an ST to drive sensibly
drive it like you stole it! it has a warranty.
did the salesman tell you about any specific running in schedule? if not, don't worry about it.

Yeah, because ALL salesmen are concerned about the welfare of the car once they get the sale

Carry on as you are dude. What's a thousand miles in the grand scheme of things?
