righto people i'm pretty shit at this stuff

my arch liners are pretty brittle so thought i'd remove them best i can without breaking them and protect the arches, but i'm unsure on how to do it properly and what stuff to use

so any thoughts on this are welcome

Before you do anything clean them with some degreaser properly, and make sure it's dry properly! Then you can either use waxoyl or paint over them or some hammerite. But just make sure all dirt is gone and they're dry!

is that litterally it? no wire wheeling or sanding down or anything like that?

would thinners be ok? i think i have some in the shed still from when i had the 2i

might look into how much hammerite is compared to waxoyl as i'd like them to kinda match the colour of the car

Well if you degrease them and get them spotless, and the surface is very smooth and shiney, then you may need to slightly sand it to get a good base for it to stick to, but usually the paint isn't laquered under there so should be ok to hammerite over. Mine's been waxoyl'd so it's just black, but a bloke I know with a white Pulsar has Hammerited his white and it looks minty fresh!

I wouldn't use thinners personally, but try an engine degreaser, or all purpose cleaner. Let them soak for a while with these applied and agitate with a soft brush, then rinse off and dry.

engine degreaser, would gunk be ok? or is that too harsh to use?

i'll get on it this weekend as i'm pretty much free till after xmas, so i'll park her up and get her jacked up

If using engine degreaser I wouldn't leave it to dwell as long as an apc, but it's fine for the paint on the inside of the engine bay so will be fine for arches.
