Hi everyone,

I have finally had the guts to tackle my Fiesta bonnet damage.

When I bought it the previous owner had bashed all the front of the bonnet in, but then decided to push it out with a screwdriver or something from the inside!!!! As you can imagine it has had a very rippled effect.

I have took the badge off, filled the whole and the ridge along the front to make a smoothed front bonnet (had no other choice than to buy a new bonnet). I have filled it a few times and primed it. Just need to check the last bits before spraying it.

I have taken pictures at each stage and hope to have it completed soon so I can load the pictures to show you. It isn't perfect, but I think not too bad so far for a novice under a car port with a spray can, filler and some wet and dry! I will let you decide once I get the pictures on.

You can get a very good finish with rattle cans if you cut back and polish up after.....When its done show us pics and if it isn't perfect as you say, i'm sure you will be able to get it pretty good by cutting bac and buffing ;)

Thanks for the advice. I am having touble with the shine. The colours good, just very dull.

When I asked my local shop they said you need a buffer with a rubber bit on! Not too helpful eh.

I think it is just alot of patience and alot of cutting back and polishing, as you say.

as said, petrol blue is a 2-stage paint so need a laquer to make it shine.

Hi,

Yes, I have bought some laquer to put on it. I hope that is going to put the finishing touches to it.

I have been taking my time rubbing down in between coats. I hope it works, I have spent bloody ages on it!!

Hi everyone,

Well, I have finally made the time to show you all my bonnet filling. I haven't been able to complete it yet as I keep getting rained off or it's just sooooo cold.

It's my first ever attempt so please be nice!

Here is how bad the dints were before:

Image

then I debadged and smoothed ready for body filling:

then I chucked in loads of filler! Lovely!

Then I sanded and re-filled, then sanded again:

Then I primed:

and finally put a few coats of paint and cut back in between:

I haven't been able to put the laquer on due to the weather so this is how she looks for now.

What do you think, any recommendations?

looks like a pretty good match. if you can get a space heater and somewhere under cover then laquer it and wet flat and polish it. otherwise wait till the warmer weather is here and do it then.

looks like you need to put a couple of more layers of paint on just above where the hole was, can see a slight arch where its been filled and sanded!!!!

other than that its a good attempt

looking good  What Stunning said would be good just to try get as thick paint as possible...as that area will be prone to stone chips

As Jam said...if you can't get somewhere under cover with a heater....it would be best to wait till warmer weather as lacquer can go a bit funny in the cold

Remember though, lacquer is often considered the hardest stage....so make sure you take your time and don't apply too thick layers....may be best keying back some of the lacquer above the area you have painted...then it will blend better if you go a bit above the paint layer

Good luck :)

actually looking at them again, did you primer it first as it looks like just blue paint straight onto the filler!!!! :)

High build primer is god after fillering

Hi everyone,

I used Hammerite Blue primer as I thought it would be easier to then but the blue paint on. I have done a few little areas around the car already with white primer and it took forever to cover it. It's blooming freezing so I think I will wait to the better weather.

I missed Fiesta in the Park this year and really want to go in 2009. Is there a stand for us?

Thanks
