this is probably a stupid question to most of you that are up to speed with zetec engines, but the the last 5 years ive only really had the need to know the cvh found in my rst, which if i found mayo in the rocker cover it would almost definately mean the head gasket had gone....

i done the usual plugs and leads change on my si over the weekend and found the tops of the plugs covered in mayo, but on first glance of the build of a zetec, the area between the top of the rocker cover and the top of the head, where the plugs screw in, is just a void space where no oil or water should normally be present...

now the car has been sitting for a year, so is it possible that its purely condensation mixed with oil residue from topping the oil up has caused the mayo or could the head gasket have failed??

That is a possibility, although you could also need a new cam cover gasket. It's a rubber gasket and does eventually perish. It may have given way around the spark plugs and allowing oil on top of your plugs, and as you say, mixed with water/condensation could cause the mayo effect. Is there any evidence of this in your filler cap?

Have you got any smoke coming out the back at all? If not, just give everything a clean and see how it gets on! :)
