Hey all, just thought i'd give you all a little update on the si..

well..

beleive it or not, when it broke back in 06' i never actually investigated the problem, infact, i was so annoyed with the car i'd had enough, so i convinced myself it was something serious, or it was a sign to give in lol

turns out that what happened was.. the alternator had seized completely, which was chewing up the drivebelt as it went round, dis-charging my battery and slowly but surely less of the belt was making contact, killing the waterpump and the PAS almost entirely, but just enough was still working to make it back home (well, 17 miles outside home, which wasnt bad when coming from newquay!)

anyway...

i've replaced the alternator, and the belt.. and i'm happy to say it runs once more! at the moment i'd doing other work to it, the brakes were shot to bits, so i've started on them, the first one was a pig of a job but it got there in the end, even in crap weather!
the second one was even worse, the caliper is totally seized and hence, i'm waiting on a new one being delivered, once thats on its just little things and then its MOT time! the car wont be cosmetically up to scratch for quite a while yet, but at least with it on the road, its a start!

glad the damage wasn't as bad as you first thought..... and nice use of my engine in that thread on FT :thumbsup: , least its come in handy for someone :D

talking of seized alternator are they meant to be bare and open to the elements right where they catch all the road spray?
