Anyone know of any chemical that will strip alloy wheels back to metal, tis a pain sanding off laquer, paint and primer. Does anything do it quicker?

should of left it a bit longer ;)


used it recently on my strut brace...brush it on...leave bout 10 mins....agitate with brush....leave another 10 mins than start to wiupe, scrape off....it should bubble through all the layers if you keep agitating it

iv used it it many things but wheels it just didnt like, i dunno if it because wheels has a stonger laqure on them to protect from chips when there spinning, i left it for over 10 mins and did nothing really :? strange

I've used it before and it was pretty strong to say the least. Haven't tried it on wheels in all honesty, so maybe it's not quite as effective, however, it beats sanding them all down if you do it in stages. Put some on, leave it be, scrape off what you can, put some more on, leave it be, scrap some more off etc. It probably works better on some wheels rather than others depending on how they've been done and by whom. :)

right: lowsi's guide to completely stripping a set of alloys to metal

get a wheely bin, one of the tall ones

2 bottles of caustic soda from b&q

a hose for much water

mix it all up in the wheely bin and put the wheels on there for 4 hours, then check the top one, wash it with a jet washer.

be careful with the caustic soda mixture, its some sort of serious acid

i promise it will completely remove any trace of paint of laquer!! :thumbsup:

So the caustic soda does not burn through the plastic wheely bin or attack the alloy? I take it you have tried this method?

so its just on a larger scale
